Women, independents flee Trump, propelling Clinton in polls

Hillary Clinton has opened up a significant lead over Donald Trump in the race for the White House, imperiling down-ballot Republicans and potentially tipping several traditionally red states into the Democratic column.
Clinton has sprinted ahead of Trump nationally and in the battlegrounds on the strength of her growing support among women and independents, emboldening Democrats who now think they can win states such as Utah, Arizona and Georgia, where they are not typically competitive.
Losses there for Trump would push the race into landslide territory and endanger the down-ballot Republicans who have been fighting election-year headwinds and constant controversy at the top of the ticket as they seek to hold onto majorities in the House and the Senate.
If this thing moves another two or three points away from Trump nationally then were talking landslide, said Monmouth University pollster Patrick Murray. Were close to getting there.

(30,777 posts)Same day registration and early voting was set up all over the state. The ruling was that it was discriminatory, I believe toward rural counties. Therefore, early voting had to end before November 8, election day. We had many, many people voting early here. Some were first time voters, and many were not. We discovered that while phone banking.
We encouraged early voting among Democrats, to run up the numbers for Hillary and to encourage other people to get out and vote for her. I am a deputy registrar, and I was part of two voter registration drives in my county.

(50,986 posts)it's because it richly deserves to.
And at this hour, after all that has come before, Reince Priebus is still behind the ticket. I really don't care what Priebus' job is or about his role with the Republican Party -- the 2016 GOP ticket is a disgrace.
Republicans all over who are still supporting it share in the blame. What comes out of Trump's mouth is one thing, but their support of Trump is a tacit endorsement of those words.
I hope voters turn the hose on the stables. A real good cleaning out is long overdue.

(50,986 posts)go head-to-head with the "Business Republicans," and maybe also the "Mega-Church Republicans."
The Baggers are going to howl that Trump was not their guy, even though they were licking his boots almost from the start. And the bloodbath to replace him for 2020 with someone "truer" will be a holy mess.
But of course Reince Priebus will bring it all together with his visionary leadership.
