Ruth Bader Ginsburg backtracks on Kaepernick: 'My comments were inappropriately dismissive and harsh
Source: Business Insider Politics
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Friday called her criticism of National Football League player Colin Kaepernick "inappropriately dismissive and harsh" and said she should not have commented on his protest against racism and police brutality in the United States.
Ginsburg, the court's senior liberal justice, told Yahoo News on Monday that Kaepernick was "dumb and disrespectful" for refusing to stand during the national anthem before games.
"Barely aware of the incident or its purpose, my comments were inappropriately dismissive and harsh. I should have declined to respond," Ginsburg said in her statement on Friday.

Also, for anyone who wasn't aware, Hate-Monger is a character from Marvel comics who's a clone of Hitler.

I wasn't sure where Judge Ginsburg was coming from in her remarks about Colin Kaepernick. I like them both a lot and it as distressing to pick up the tension in Ginsburg's comments about Kaepernick's protest actions.
It feels as if the way is cleared again, thanks to Judge Ginsburg's top-drawer behavior. It feels as if there's been a restoration and clarity between two people I both like and respect.

(16,924 posts)a significant showing here - a person to use intellect/reason and adjust/learn/modify a position - that is to say, someone being open-minded and willing to listen and learn.
THIS I would expect from Justice Ginsburg. This is what we should wish all could/would do.

(32,623 posts)that she studies a wide variety of topics in depth. There are time and space constraints on all of us.
I'm glad this one has been brought to her attention.

(50 posts)She has been a strong force to make this a better nation. I wish more people understood how important the Supreme Court is to our everyday lives. There would be less talk of voting for a third-party as a "protest vote."

More seriously, I also apologize for my DU comment on the issue.
I should have used more polite language in writing . .
"It's 'dumb and disrespectful' for the . .
Judicial branch of government to do nothing to bring
the US torturers to justice.
I'm a Vietnam vet, and I no longer stand up and
salute the torture state."

(10,893 posts)Kaep did that was dumb was when he opened his mouth about the email non-scandal and equated that with the Trump campaign's antics. Other than that, his protest has been spot on, and he and other Black players are bringing up issues that Blacks experience that the dominant culture wants to sweep under the rug. I appreciate RBG's apology, though.
