The Latest: Comey Felt Obliged to Send Letter to Congress
Source: NYT
FBI Director James Comey says he felt an "obligation" to send a letter to Congress advising lawmakers that the bureau is looking into more emails connected to Hillary Clinton after he had testified repeatedly that the investigation was completed.
Comey tells FBI employees in an internal email, obtained by The Associated Press, that he also thinks "it would be misleading to the American people were we not to supplement the record."
The FBI is investigating whether there is classified information in new emails uncovered during the sexting investigation of the estranged husband of one of Hillary Clinton's closest aides.
Comey reiterates that "we don't know the significance of this newly discovered collection of emails." He also notes he is aware "there is significant risk of being misunderstood" in sending Congress such a letter "in the middle of an election season."

This partisan piece of shit felt "obliged" to pull this stunt in order to help out his master Trump. PERIOD.

(33,207 posts)Maybe he can get a pop-in gig on the Putin Trumpski TeeVee. (that nobody watches)
He can continue investigating HRC on his own dime... 'cause Orange Skin-flint Donaldova sure as hell isn't going to pay and I'm tired of paying for this baseless investigation.

(13,617 posts)It's politically impossible for Obama to do so now, but Comey has to be fired immediately upon Hillary's inauguration.

(783 posts)Anyway hopefully it won't matter because people have already heard so much about HRC emails they're numb to it.
Not to sound complacent, but
I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, and I doubt she will either. If he comes up with something then she'll go answer questions for the ten zillionth time. We'll see how it goes.
Maybe he's just getting afraid she'll replace him when she's Prez. Maybe she should, who knows.

(783 posts)I tend to want to give everyone the benefit of the doubt until more is known.
But the more that becomes known, the more clear it becomes all the time that Comey knows what he's doing. AND he is not alone in the FBI, and this laptop email release is not the only FBI anti-Hillary release (in more recent news). On the plus they have some sort of internal affairs group that is investigating at least some of it now.

(783 posts)Basically Comey told Congress previously that if anymore evidence comes up (=anymore emails) then he would investigate further. So now he has to keep his word on that or risk his own neck.

(17,390 posts)...Republicans will continue to insist that there be investigations of the investigation. Comey's actions in reporting on ongoing investigations in real time already show that he is being biased against Hillary Clinton.

(51,726 posts)Then why did Comey send such a vague letter open to so many interpretations instead of laying out the FACTS?

(23,158 posts)Don't give a crap about legal reasons, this wasn't done in the manner it was due to legalities It was done to cause the most possible harm to Clinton for something that had nothing to do with her. It's crass and misleading bullshit. Obama should fire him on 11/9 at 2:01 in the am or even on 11/8 after the race has been declared for Clinton. He was not smart to keep this Repug in office, the are like scorpions, can't help from stinging Dems just because that's who they are. Party above the law or the interests of this country.

(7,403 posts)You select emails that have Hillary as an addressee on the aide's computer and then compare that file on date/time stamp (after sorting both files on date/time) with the emails from Hillary's computer and focus only on the emails on Clinton's close aide that show as unmatched. That number could be zero.
A good IT person should be able to come up with that list in a matter of a couple of hours. Indeed, it should already be done.

(17,865 posts)Get her IT folks explain to her how it could be done quickly, and, if Comey refuses, go public with the methodology for getting it done. Question Comey's competence in public.

(17,390 posts)...can you imagine him work for Trump when it is okay to use investigations as threats of prosecution as a means of achieving political ends. From now on, just send the FBI a stack of e-mails on the eve of an election, then say that the FBI needs to review them.

Mr. Comey committed the LIE of omission, and for that F**K you Comey

(7,403 posts)For being nothing more than a stenographers with Comey's letter. But then they crave that horserace for the bottom line and the word landslide was starting to be heard and they couldn't have that. The media had an obligation to point out the omission and even the fact that a simple two file match based on files only selecting Hillary as an addressee then sorted by date/timestamp would quickly show whether there were any new emails or if they were all duplicates (as is likely). Creating this possible mismatch file should not take longer than a couple of hours so why hasn't it already been done. This is a hit job not only by Comey but also by the media that reported it uncritically.

(7,403 posts)For purposes of the Clinton email server issue you select off the aide's email file all email's with Hillary's email address in either the send or inbox addressee list then on Hillary's email file select off all email with the aide's email address in either the send or inbox files. You then sort each of those files on the date/timestamp and subject for the email and do a two file match on date/timestamp. At this point you are only interested in email's on the aide's file but not on Clinton's file. There is a real possibility that mismatched file would contain zero records. There is no need to look at email where there is an exact match on date/timestamp or on Hillary's file and not on the aide's file. That task shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to perform. Indeed, it should have already taken place.
