UN Demands Argentina Release Indigenous Leader Milagro Sala
Published 28 October 2016

Since Argentine President Mauricio Macri supports her arrest, Sala is now dubbed the first political prisoner of the neoliberal administration.

The United Nations demanded the Argentine government of Mauricio Macri immediately release Indigenous activist Milagro Sala, who according to the organization has suffered from arbitrary detention without legal grounds following her arrest earlier in the year.

In a statement, the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention of the U.N. said there are a number of "accusations" against Sala, which could result in the Macri administration indefinitely detaining her.

The Indigenous activist and lawmaker was arrested in Jujuy on Jan. 16 after staging a month-long sit-in against Jujuy Governor Gerardo Morales, an ally of President Macri.

At least 43 Gendarmes died in December after being sent to Jujuy Province on Macri's orders to suppress possible protests against Governor Gerardo Morales (a Macri ally).

To cover his ass over the scandal, Macri then had Sala detained - first with no charges, then (after 100 days) on charges but with no evidence or even testimony against her.

Unconstitutional through and though.

Thank you for covering this, Judi.

should have awakened the people who had just elected him. It's hard to cover up the fact he lost those people simply because he wanted to have them covering the area because he believed the local right-wing governor was going to announce slashing a lot of jobs for local workers, and they wanted to get the jump on them, prevent any strong protests against something which would create huge problems for the poor people of Jujuy who needed their work so desperately.

So on their way to violently suppress protest on behalf of the President, they violently lost their own lives when a tire on their bus exploded and the bus fell 65 feet into a ravine and the dry riverbed below them, landing upside down.

All this happening a week after this fascist, Dirty War dictatorship-supporting clown schemed his way into the Presidency.

The blood of these government policemen is on his hands. As fascists aren't concerned about human beings, he undoubtedly couldn't have cared less, and would do it again in a heartbeat.

I looked up Governor Morales after seeing your post, and learned he has been horrendously vicious toward the local indigenous people in this area before. I'm looking forward to the day I hear he has somehow been removed from office.
