Justice Department, Abedin lawyers in talks to permit email search

Source: CNN

The Justice Department and the FBI are in discussions with lawyers for Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin to secure approval that would allow the FBI to conduct a full search of her newly discovered emails, sources familiar with the discussions told CNN.

Authorities have not yet sought a search warrant for the emails, law enforcement sources told CNN. Government lawyers hope to secure a search warrant to permit investigators to review thousands of emails on a computer Abedin shared with her estranged husband, Anthony Weiner, officials said.

The new search warrant is needed because the existing authorization, covered by a subpoena, related only to the ongoing investigation of Weiner, who is accused of having sexually explicit communications with an underage girl.

How can you get something like this incorrect? The story seemed pretty detailed including saying the source believed it was likely that previously deleted emails were going to be recovered.

Own your story. Don't just walk away from it.

What I want to know is just why they believe that the trove may contain emails that were deleted from Hillary's server before the FBI took posession or it??

Way to be impartial and unbiased.

If they got the main claim wrong, how can you believe any of it?

"Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that talks between the Department of Justice and Abedin's lawyers were underway. They are not."

"Government lawyers haven't yet approached Abedin's lawyers to seek an agreement to conduct the search. Sources earlier told CNN that those discussions had begun, but the law enforcement officials now say they have not."

obtain a search warrant to conduct a fishing expedition.

Comey has stated that Abedin's emails were found on Weiner's laptop. The FBI and Comey claim they don't know what is on these email...only SPECULATE they might be "pertinent". PERTINENT is not enough legal mustard TO BUY YOU A WARRANT. Therefore the FBI would need PERMISSION by the OWNER/AUTHOR (in this case Uma) to view these emails.

The FBI is out on a limb here! https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2016/10/30/was-it-legal-for-the-fbi-to-expand-the-weiner-email-search-to-target-hillary-clintons-emails/?utm_term=.123410f4b64c

He didn't even have a warrant or a need to deal with this BS and he pretends this is a serious "investigation" or inquiry" how is he and the agents that are involved allowed in the building?
