This Is the Bleakest Poll of the 2016 Election

Source: Mother Jones

Throughout the election season, Hillary Clinton has used Donald Trump's record of belittling and rating women based on their physical appearances as evidence that the Republican nominee is a bad role model and unfit to be president of the United States. "Our children are watching," one Clinton ad from July suggested. Another in September featured young women looking in the mirror, while Trump's own words disparaging women played in the background.

A new poll from the Upshot published on Friday appears to confirm Clinton's stark warnings, with nearly half of the teenage girls polled saying that Trump's disparaging remarks have had a negative effect on the way they view their bodies.

"That hits me hard when people like Trump say people who are skinnier than I am are too big," 15-year-old Morgan Lesh told the Times. "It makes me feel extremely insecure about myself."

"Especially for girls in high school rating girls on a scale of 1 to 10 does not help because it really does get into your head that they think I'm ugly or I don't look good," 14-year-old Jordan Barrett said.

The survey's results align with other anecdotes showing Trump's inflammatory remarks resonating with children.

I don't make that point to validate Trump's outrageously sexist behavior.

However, I do make that point to illustrate a few things. 1) This is nothing new. 2) Vanity is not a moral good. 3) Someone who is targeted by him and his ilk need merely ignore him - too Stoic an approach for most, but nevertheless, a winning one.

NOT THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY with profits their goal. NOT MEN, their goal is in their pants. And, LEAST OF ALL, not a serial sex offender/pedophile, LIKE DONALD TRUMP! There is NO EXCUSE for women to accept this for their daughters. SNAP OUT OF IT!

without being sexist about it or teaching them to be prejudiced against half of humanity.

There's no need to tear someone else down.

...and not delicate flowers either. These are strong, educated women. The fact that they are not only not voting for the first woman president but are o.k. with voting for a less qualified, sexually aggressive and harrassing man OVER her is just mind blowing. These would be the first women to say something and complain (as they should) if someone said something that Trump did to themselves or their daughter. And they aren't even particularly religious so I can't even say it's that. I guess they hate immigrants and minorities more than they love themselves.

Just makes no sense to me.

I can't believe any woman would vote for him, much less a woman with daughters, but I see them on TV and I probably even know one or two. But then I remember back in 2012 when the GOP politician men were making all those horrible comments about women shutting that whole thing down, a repub friend called me and ranted that they weren't taking her birth control & reproductive rights away nor those of her daughters. Six weeks later she liked Romney/Ryan on FB. WTF?
