SIOUX CITY, Iowa Donald Trump lashed out at the political elite and the "media" on Sunday, saying they don't know what it's like to live paycheck to paycheck.
In a clear bid to his blue-collar base, Trump told a boisterous crowd of Iowans that if he's elected, he'll make sure their jobs stay in America and that their paychecks will rise.
"The politicians don't understand what it's like, the media and the political elite don't know," said the self-described New York billionaire.
Trump was making what will likely be his last appearance in Iowa before Tuesday's election. He appeared before more than 4,500 people, who stood in line for hours to get into the Sioux City Convention Center.

(9,445 posts)I think he might just likes the attention. A few days ago he pointed out, in a speech, that his campaign team was trying to get him to go to areas of South Florida instead of North Florida. Their argument was what you mentioned; he was going to easily win North Florida. He needed to go to South Florida in order to try to convince more people to vote for him. He said he did not want to go to South Florida because all his supporters were in North Florida.
I think Donald Trump mainly likes walking into rooms where most, if not all, the people in the room will cheer for him. It is possible that for Donald Trump campaigning is about being in a room of people and being able to say, "look at all the people who love me".

(13,845 posts)Don-the-con has been spoiled his entire life, for him to even suggest that he has the tiniest inkling of what living paycheck-to-paycheck is like is an enormous insult to all working men and women. Don, I HAVE lived paycheck-to-paycheck, I worked my way through college, I've spent many months without a job worrying about whether or not I'd be able to keep my house, I'm attempting to help my kids through college as much as possible so they don't get screwed by the system which is now stacked against them. Donald, YOU JUST DON'T GET IT AND NEVER WILL.

(4,592 posts)Trump is a fool and a coward and a liar and a cheat and a thief, etc etc etc. Apparently these Iowans are so uneducated they can't see the forest for the trees. Poor bastards voting against themselves.

(9,445 posts)I think a number of Donald Trump's supporters are misinformed. Some of his supporters actually believe he was a regular guy who worked hard, created a business with little to no help, and became a billionaire along the way. It does not help that for 30+ the media has helped to build the myth of Donald Trump. They promoted the stories of Trump being this awesome business man who built great businesses.
Even now some in the media do very little to destroy the myth of Donald Trump. A week or two ago I saw a news reporter make the statement, Donald Trump is right, while Hillary Clinton spent 30 years working in government Donald Trump was building a business. My thought at that comment was, "No, Donald Trump did not spend 30 years building a company. His father spent many years building a company and then passed that company down to his children". Maybe the people at Donald Trump rallies would be less supportive of him and his policies if they knew the truth about him.

Of course! He says that he never said "wages are too high." I get it now.

(4,592 posts)And doesn't pay the people who work for him, lies to them literally constantly, etc etc etc. Are their heads up their asses or do they just have their noses so far up Trump's ass they can't see the light? It's really mind boggling. Trump has brought out the worst in people and they don't even know it. They think they're independent and strong when they are really puppets of the right wing bullshit. At least we know where they are now.
