Son puts valuable coins stolen from father through Coinstar to buy crack: Torrington police

Source: Fox 61

Police said Leonard Rinaldi, 53, of Torrington, was arrested on larceny charges in connection with the theft of thousands of dollars worth of valuable coins from his father.

The coins, worth $8,000, were reported stolen on October 11. Police said Rinaldi told them he stole the coins, took them to a CoinStar machine at a Stop and Shop and received approximately $60 dollars for them. He then told police he used the money to buy crack cocaine. Police said he has a lengthy criminal record. He was living at home with his father at the time of the theft.

Authorities said they have video of Rinaldi at the CoinStar machine and that many of the coins – that were not rejected by the machine because of their silver content – have been recovered. Police said they don’t know where the rejected coins ended up.

The most valuable Lincoln cent.

Don't know if this guy had one, but if he did, his son would have gotten $ .01 for it when it's worth many hundreds.

And silver coins are worth well over twice face value even if they are in poor condition.

Although if there was an 1894-S dime in there, the collection would have been worth $800,000 and not $8,000.

*By the way, the 1909-S VDB isn't the most valuable Lincoln Cent any more. Check THIS out for a little insanity: https://coins.ha.com/itm/lincoln-cents/small-cents/1943-s-1c-struck-on-a-bronze-planchet-au55-pcgs-secure/a/1231-5267.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515

coming back with the arts at its center but full of drugs and unemployed people. Yet Hillary did not send so much as signs to CT. She should have focused on rust belt states and cities instead of ritzy fundraisers.
