Democratic Sen. Heitkamp to Talk Cabinet Post with Trump
Source: Roll Call
President-elect Donald Trump is considering adding North Dakota Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp to his Cabinet, and will meet with her on Friday in New York.
So far, the incoming chief executive has picked all Republicans to head federal departments and agencies. Presidents of both parties have in the past tried to get at least one secretary from the other party into a first-term Cabinet.
Trump and his team view Heitkamp as being an asset in any role or capacity, should she make the cut, an aide told reporters Thursday morning. She comes very highly recommended and [is] qualified, the aide added.
Heitkamp, in a statement, didnt rule out a Cabinet post.
Whatever job I do, I hope to work with the president-elect and all of my colleagues in Congress on both sides of the aisle to best support my state, she said. Every single day, my work is motivated first and foremost by how I can be most helpful to the people of North Dakota.

One more seat we'd need to win back in 2018.

Senate:
ND-Sen, ND-AL: Sen. Heidi Heitkamp is arguably the most endangered Democrat in the chamber, and incoming NRSC chair Cory Gardner has talked up Rep. Kevin Cramer as a potential challenger. Cramer, who represents the entire state in the House, hasn't said anything about his plans, and it's possible that he'll take a post in the Trump administration instead. State Sen. Tom Campbell recently told The Jamestown Sun that he's interested in running against Heitkamp, but only if Cramer doesn't. The Sun writes that Campbell will run for the Senate in a Cramer-less field, but they don't provide a direct quote from him definitively saying that.
But Campbell did make it clear that, if Cramer resigns his seat for a job with Trump, he would "immediately" run in the special election to succeed him. The Sun also says that Campbell will run for Cramer's seat in 2018 if the congressman leaves to challenge Heitkamp, but again, there's no direct quote. Heitkamp herself also hasn't made it clear that she'll seek a second term in this conservative state.

(50,553 posts)The only thing stopping Trump from carrying out any of his evil schemes is the fact there are going to be 48 Democrats in the Senate next term. There are sixteen D Senators from states with R governors; if he can get at least half of them...hail, Dictator Trump!

(15,262 posts)She would be a noboby and lose all power in a trump admin. This is just a way to get her out of the way in the Senate.
It would also be a huge loss to Native American representation in Congress.

(5,714 posts)By comparison, Sen. Bernie Sanders, who is among the top climate hawks, scored a 95.
A Heitkamp nomination should trouble Americans whove taken the side of the Native Americans opposing the Dakota Access pipeline. The oil and gas industry was the top contributor to Heitkamps campaign, and its the industry that stands to profit by passing a pipeline under Lake Oahe near the Standing Rock Indian Reservation.
Heitkamp has recently been critical of the indigenous protesters, whom she has called violent, even as she remains silent on the critical injuries experienced by the so-called water protectors facing off with authorities. Earlier this year, Heitkamp praised Morton County Sheriff Kyle Kirchmeiers handling of the conflict as stellar, while applauding his calm.
Heitkamp likewise praised the Army Corps of Engineers order to break up the protests this month as a needed step to support the safety of residents, workers, protesters and law enforcement.

Unfortunately, if she gets nominated and confirmed by Trump as Energy Secretary then there is a 100% chance of a Republican who is far worse even than her on fossil fuels/drilling, climate change, DAPL, etc. (and is far worse across the board) - probably that Kevin Cramer asshole (who remember, was an early endorser of Trump and wrote his energy policy). Trump will then be able to have his cake and eat it too with a Democratic ally from North Dakota in his Cabinet and (another - Hoeven is also a Trump ally, though with more reservations than Cramer) Republican ally from North Daktoa in the Senate (and of course, a Republican House member from the state). And Trump will be hailed by the useful idiots in both Congress and the media for his "bipartisanship".
The Pussygrabber-In-Chief (or more likely, the people who recruited him - from both inside the US as well as outside i.e. the Putin regime) is playing them all like a fiddle. A fiddle of fucking fools, that is!
