Armed Man Targets D.C. Restaurant That Faced Violent Threats Because Of Fake News Pushed By Right

WASHINGTON ― A jarring incident at a restaurant that has faced violent threats because of an unfounded and preposterous conspiracy theory raises concerns about the real-world consequences of spreading fake news stories.

Washington, D.C., police on Sunday afternoon detained a man armed with an assault rifle at Comet Ping Pong, a popular pizza restaurant in a busy neighborhood of the city.

According to police, the man, later identified as Edgar Maddison Welch, from Salisbury, North Carolina, entered the restaurant with an assault rifle; there were conflicting reports of gunshots. There were no injuries, but police locked down the surrounding block, which includes other restaurants and shops, including a popular bookstore, Politics and Prose.

* * *
The restaurant has been the subject of death threats originating from a false right-wing conspiracy theory alleging that Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and campaign chairman John Podesta ran a child sex trafficking ring in the back of the restaurant.

I guess some people do rely on social media to get their news. I bet this idiot thought that he would be hailed as a hero for busting this child sex trafficking ring.

The "color quiz" is only valid cet. par.

If that's not the case, the conclusion's invalid. (I know, I'm old fashioned what with wanting controls. You change 20 variables, though, you don't get to say that the difference in outcome is entirely the result of the one variable that we want to believe must be responsible for 100% of the variance. Well, you can make the claim, but then it's really just a deeply held fervent belief that's at play, not evidence. Sort of a "fake conclusion" taken as fact which then constitutes, well, fake news. I-Fe-y.)

It's like the Roof arrest last year. You watch the video, you know why nobody was shot. But if all you hear is hearsay, it's clear that melanin excess leads to lead poisoning. But we're humans and usually see what we want to see and believe what suits us.

The police claiming "not terrorism" - excuse me, but I thought terrorism was "the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims." What did I miss?

Oh. I see. He's white. I get it now.

This shit is pure alec jones bullshit. Americans really are stupid enough to believe this shit but they voted the new fuhrer in so no surprise. One freeper said Google said the report was "ten hours ago" about an hour after the event so he concluded the news was reported nine hours before the alleged gun incident. Another Freeper said it was a false flag action. And many Freepers confirmed that Hillary really was running a pedophile operation out of a back room at that Pizza parlor.
