White House: Trump's $4 billion figure on Air Force One is questionable
Source: Reuters
The White House said on Tuesday it does not know where President-elect Donald Trump got his figure of more than $4 billion to replace the Air Force One plane that transports presidents, a spokesman said on Tuesday. Trump urged the federal government on Tuesday to cancel an order with Boeing Co to develop a new Air Force One, saying costs were more than $4 billion and "out of control." "Some of the statistics that have been cited, shall we say, don't appear to reflect the nature of the financial arrangement between Boeing and the Department of Defense," White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters. ABC reported the contract to build two of them was around $3 billion plus cost overruns.
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/trump-heads-back-road-tour-44000943 The thing is, the current aircraft are smaller, 30 years old, and cost more to maintain than it would if we just got new ones. Airplanes aren't cheap but the President needs them as part of his/her job. |

41. Oh, come ON now!
These planes are type certificated, so you have to find a supplier that meets FAA standards, and that ain't cheap. They have to use certificated materials and processes, and that ain't cheap. You've got to find a licensed installer to put the curtains in, and that ain't cheap either. And all that's got to be paid for in advance. It would cost more at this point to delete the prayer curtains, child prostitution rooms, onboard marijuana farm, huge loudspeakers that play "America...Fuck Yeah!" when the plane lands and, of course, the toilets with the special coating on them that resists any attempt to gold-plate them, than it would to just leave that shit in the plan.

21. If Trump does manage to cancel the new planes,
which are going to be needed soon enough, although I understand they won't be flying until 2024, and he simply uses his own aircraft, whoever is elected in 2024 simply will not have a Presidential plane available to use. THAT'S a scary thought.
Not to mention, as has already been pointed out, the President's plane has lots of stuff that ordinary private aircraft don't, much of which no doubt involves security. |

46. The current Air Force One is very near the end of
its life. Just sitting around in metaphorical mothballs won't do it any good. A replacement is needed to get into the pipeline pretty much now, if it's to go into service in 2024, which is what's been planned.
Trump's ego is so vast it's very easy to envision him refusing to fly on a plane that doesn't say TRUMP in gigantic letters. It is, of course, possible, that the Secret Service will tell him he absolutely must fly on Air Force One, and they may also tell him he can't cancel the order for the replacement. But I recognize I don't know very much about these things, least of all what the SS can force a President to do, for his own safety's sake. |

Its probably the best maintained plane on earth, with the lowest mileage as well for its age.
I don't think we should scrap the replacement, but its not going to fall out of the sky in 2024. |

49. I keep on seeing that at least one of the two
Air Force One planes has been in service since the Reagan administration which would mean they came into service by 1988. And that they are getting more and more costly to maintain. I will defer to your statement of when the two planes actually came into service.
By 2021 both planes will be over thirty years old. Yes, they won't fall out of the sky -- or hopefully won't fall out of the sky -- but if nothing at all is done to replace them, because Trump happily flies around in his own little plane, and nothing at all is done to get new Air Force Ones in place for whoever becomes President in 2024, there will be a real crisis at that point. |

23. The herr dumpster (also known as the serial predator) is either a liar ,
( which he is) or he has given out classified information, for the total costs of three airplanes.
https://www.aircraftcompare.com/manufacture-aircraft/Boeing/1 This fascist, if he had any business sense, beside defrauding and stiffing people would tell the public that B747-8 production line is not producing enough aircraft to make a profit for Boeing, because of the simple fact that buyers of planes at both Boeing and Airbus are building and selling two engine ETOPS qualified aircraft. The B747-8 is more fuel efficient for the four engines than the B747-400. There is a reason why they the Air Force wants the Boeing aircraft, not only is it American Made, but is easier to get parts from the manufacture of the product and its cheaper. McCain and this twit would tell you otherwise, but F*** them. And its more secure, it is after all the flying WHITE HOUSE> Because then you become dependent on the foreign source for parts, and if they get pissed off they can say you want this part----and laugh at you You do not want your "enemies "to know what the aircraft has for security and re-fueling capabilities, and other classified material, you want this information in house, why do you think, they have only American made Military aircraft made in the US. And what's really insane as this serial predator fascist is not even the president, he may run around and think he is, but he has not been sworn in as of yet, unless I am missing something. The media is trying to "normalize" this hypocrite. You can go to some web site for shoes and there message board says that this hypocrite has cancelled the deal. The only thing he was canceling was him sitting on his golden thrown in the bathroom, tweeting. ![]() |

For someone who keeps claiming he wants to preserve good American jobs, he sure wants to get rid of them real fast.
