In an interview with Time for its person of the year issue, and a follow-up with NBCs Today show, Mr. Trump talked tough.
■ He insisted he has nothing to do with the divided states of America that Time says he will lead. When you say divided states of America, I didnt divide them, he told NBC. Im not president yet, so I didnt do anything to divide.
■ He declined to criticize Rodrigo R. Duterte, president of the Philippines, who is leading a slaughter in the streets of Manila, or even to push back on comparisons between Mr. Duterte and the president-elects promised crackdown on criminal illegal immigrants.
■ He rejected United States intelligence conclusions that Russia was behind hacks at the Democratic National Committee and Clinton campaign that boosted his campaign. I dont believe it. I dont believe they interfered, Mr. Trump said of the Russians.

(43,044 posts)by that i mean withdraw from society, totally stop spending to
the extent one can
When they stop exploiting us, that is to say, when the money stops flowing
to them, they will begin to understand that something is changing
Obama had it right with green energy, and long term goals for the common good
We are in for a rough time.

(7,581 posts)Want to talk about a recession?? We can cause one with not spending.
And yes, I know good people will be hurt by this, but you think he won't do worse to people in the longer run?? Some short term pain - we Americans can't handle a bit of delayed gratification or discomfort. We are a weak people Ugh

(43,044 posts)I know people who are all pro-Democratic, and rather poor, but
they go to the casinos, to shows, to every corporate chain restaurant
you can name. You say to them, I won't eat there, I only go to small
family restaurants, where the money stays in local families, and in the
community ... they're like, "What?" They don't understand.
I got fleeced at a national auto chain. Hosed might be a better term.
This year I went local. Found an old guy who's only keeping his business
open, I suspect, to help his best employee, who is sole support
for his family with disabilities. I dug deep, slipped him a few bucks. These
folks need my money more than the shareholders of corporate America.
And they did good work. We all must examine how we spend. Where we
put our paychecks, who gets the cash flow. If we support and help one
another, we are not supporting inequality, Big Business, the leisure class
as much as we did.

(2,642 posts)This Ayn Randian "I matter more than the common good" kind of thinking?
You going to go build "utopia" in some valley someplace too?
I remember when repukes claimed they were going to do this, and considering the growth of the economy over the past 8 years, I wouldn't doubt that a number of them did.
I guess you are in good company.

(43,044 posts)Self-denial, frugality, efficiency are not about me, and they
are surely no "utopia"
They are about trying to nudge the world toward less inequality
precisely because the common good matters more than any of us
