Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson named secretary of state: reports
Source: McClatchy
WASHINGTON Diplomacy in the world of Donald Drumpf is going to be directed by the CEO of Exxon Mobil, one of the world’s largest oil companies. The President-elect tapped Rex Tillerson, a private sector Texan with no formal diplomatic experience, to be Secretary of State on Saturday according to NBC news. Despite a dining with 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney and courting former Gen. David Petraeus for the nation’s top diplomatic post, Drumpf went with Tillerson, who has served as Exxon CEO since 2006 and worked for the oil giant for over four decades. Tillerson will face confirmation hearings in the Senate. The CEO, who made $27.3 million in salary last year, has some policy differences with the President-elect. Tillerson believes in man-made climate change and supports the Paris climate agreement, but Drumpf has indicated he will pull out of the agreement when he assumes the presidency. Exxon has been criticized for denying climate change in public while privately preparing its oil infrastructure for rising sea levels during the 1980s and 1990s, although the company called for a carbon tax starting in 2009. Per Wiki
In 2011, on behalf of ExxonMobil, Tillerson signed an agreement with Russia for drilling in the Arctic that could be valued up to $300 billion.[12] The agreement has not able to be carried out due to sanctions enacted against Russia. In 2013, Tillerson was awarded the Order of Friendship by Vladimir Putin.[10] |

21. The sad part is...
These dumb shits are low information voters. They still don't understand what has happened to them. They are still out there celebrating Trumps victory - attacking blacks, Jews, Muslims, latinos, and liberals - spraypainting swastikas on church walls and attacking anyone and everyone who's not white.
It will be some time before they realize they have been the unwitting dupes who allowed a millionaire Russian operative to destroy America's infrastructure and turn all the wealth over to 1% of the population. The oligarchs will be saluting Putin while lighting their cigars and toasting President for Life Donald Trump. |

Cheap oil was not here to stay. It was only a matter of time before OPEC countries ran out of money and agreed to a cut. I don't think it will go back to $100/bbl any time soon but it is going up. That rise will have nothing to do with Tillerson though.

42. Tillerson's acknowledgement of climate change looks recent, convenient and tactical
While the company makes a clear statement acknowledging climate science and the risks of climate change on its website, CEO Rex Tillerson has repeatedly misrepresented basic climate science in public statements by casting doubt on the accuracy and competency of climate models.
At the company’s 2015 annual meeting, Tillerson argued that the world should wait to improve its understanding of climate science before taking action. At its 2016 annual meeting, Tillerson repeated his assertion that climate models are not accurate. Tillerson’s argument—that uncertainties over specific model projections should serve as a rationale for inaction in reducing emissions—belies ExxonMobil’s claim that it accepts the scientific evidence on climate change. Tillerson is next up to deliver a keynote address tomorrow at the Oil and Money conference in London, where climate change is barely on the agenda and oil executives are set to focus on maintaining business as usual. http://blog.ucsusa.org/kathy-mulvey/how-does-exxonmobil-attack-climate-science-let-me-count-the-ways |
