House Speaker backs probe of cyber threats on U.S. election process

Source: Reuters

U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan said he supported effort by the House Intelligence Committee to examine cyber threats posed to the American democratic process by foreign governments, but that such efforts should not cast doubt on U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's victory.

"Any foreign intervention in our elections is entirely unacceptable. And any intervention by Russia is especially problematic," Ryan said in a statement on Monday.

we can send missiles to the Marshall Islands Island at a cost of 100 million or build jets F-35 for 135 million a piece, but we can't have a national audit of votes in this country

FU you really are a disgrace

Eddie Munster is really a disgrace, but then so is McConnell. I'm so disgusted with these lying a$$holes in the GOP. Do they actually really support tRump? I don't think so. They only do because he has an R after his name. I'm sure they didn't like him a couple of years ago when he was a D.

So, since he's saying that right off the bat, I fully expect it to move two steps over toward the worse.

The fact that the GOP seems to be taking this seriously is a sign that something isn't going the way they hoped.

Just icing on the cake for them.

Besides, if they're going to ensure their party primacy, this is just the sort of thing they need to play the Who's your Patriot game. Instead of a physical crisis they can't control, a political crisis will do just as well.
They're using Stalin's playbook after all. This is just the beginning of phase II. Phase III is permanent party power; Politburo and enforcement arm.

Putin doesn't care - he knows this is all hyperbole; he's laughing all the way to his buddies banks - not only has he made the US look weak and hypocritically vacuous to the rest of the world, he's destabilized Russia's penultimate global opponent (China being Russia's primary global opponent) which allows him a lot of operating room for his own empire building.

House intelligence chairman: no benefit in opening new Russia hack probe
Source: Reuters

December 12, 2016

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Intelligence Committee said on Monday his committee has been conducting "vigorous oversight" of the investigations into election-related cyber attacks and he did not see any benefit in opening more probes.

"At this time I do not see any benefit in opening further investigations, which would duplicate current committee oversight efforts and Intelligence Community inquiries," Representative Devin Nunes said in a statement.
