Wisconsin lawmaker to propose drug testing for high school

Source: WBAY-TV, ABC affiliate in Green Bay, WI

MADISON, Wis. (AP) – A Wisconsin Republican wants to require all high school students participating in extracurricular activities to be subject to random drug testing.

Rep. Joel Kleefisch’s proposal is one of several coming from a task force he convened looking at ways to combat heroin use. The Wisconsin State Journal reported in a story published Wednesday (http://bit.ly/2hNsFpf ) that the proposal would also require random testing for students who park vehicles on school grounds.

that this asshole has a stake in a testing company. Isn't that one of the things that happened in Florida? Many of the cheerleaders had an interest in the major testing companies.

That being said I wouldn't consider supporting this until the Legislature required an alcohol interlock on all office doors and the chamber itself. If you blow over the legal limit you stay out. In addition, all the numbers blown by each lawmaker have to be posted in real-time next to their names on the front page of the State website.

Teenagers who are treated LIKE criminals when they are not criminals many times decide why not BE a criminal if you're going to be treated like that anyway.

Utterly ridiculous GOP shit.

and now you have this republican fascist wanting to get into your home life and everyday affairs, by having your kiddies, drug tested, because after all, you can't be trusted to tell your kids, that if they go to school and play in sports that they need to be drug tested, because your wisCONsin government don't trust your kids or you, hell there not even pro players, and in essence he wants to deny your kid a chance to get an education, if they take cough syrup for a flu, because after all when tested it shows drugs, that are banned in sports.

Because after all, this ass**** gave your state right to work for less, gave you a corrupt legislature and supreme court, and even gave you the dumpster and because after all they promised you jobs, while your state and governor, squashed a high speed rail service to Chicago and Milwaukee, and these same supporters are thinking that the Hardees / Carl jr's billionaire/millionaire nominee for labor sec is going to be make or give you job to some where like Hardee's.

And your doofus governor, running around, spewing s*** to soldiers, that were sent to Standing Rock to support a fascist energy company that wants to eventually have oil spewed in water, because you know humans don't make mistakes when it comes to oil!

So that when they go to a white board meeting with Rick ( I don't know the name for the energy department I want to abolish, what's the name) Perry, they can all sit down and say, yep, we spoiled every river, tributary and lake in the country and the world, whats the next order of business for greed

Guess what you are still ranked at 45th in job creation, just above dirt.

And your state is now close to being just like Kansas, but you have to get your kiddies drugged tested, finding a job or an education, doesn't mean s*** its about drugs and blaming those later on for not trying hard enough, when you run for reelection has being the problem.

Just ask this right wing hypocrite--------------do you understand , because Gail Sparks (trump or what I like to call serial predator supporter) and others from Kenosha sitting next to Sanders were enlightened by Sanders response of facts, when he explained how SS, Medicare and Medicaid is going to be robbed by your Paul Ryan republican fascist plutocrats, but don't worry, its about the drugs and your kiddies

So that in some ways is a back door to say, see the public education system is rife with drug users, and it needs to be privatized

Extracurricular activities includes sh*t like Orchestra, Honors Societies and Student Govt Associations.

What do they think these kids are doing, sniffing rosin? lol

In all seriousness, this is absurd. I searched through several articles looking for how they planned to pay for this crap and several articles called it "unfunded". So, if over 80% of some school districts students are eligible for random testing, who is paying for this widespread invasion of their privacy? Also unmentioned is what they will DO when they find someone who tested positive.

Several articles stated they also wanted to test kids who are failing class, but they aren't legally allowed to do so per the SCOTUS. Yes, let's further traumatize someone who might be hungry, have problems at home, has been left behind by crappy educational standards, needs a tutor or just needs a new damn pair of glasses.

This isn't about saving lives. It's a witch hunt to make parents of dead users happy. "See? We are doing something, so don't sue us."

F*ckers.

I personally loved getting high at lunch when I was in HS. A bunch of us would go between the church and the movie theatre and smoke up.

That was back in the day of Mexican.

I always made A's and B's graduated from college with 2 degrees and now I'm retired.

I HATED elementary and Jr High people beating on each other all the time. In HS everybody was high and mellow.

Sad kids have to miss out on that.

every member of Congress should be drug tested before they are sworn in office. They should also be required to agree to and submit to random drug testing.

I believe that the extracurricular drug testing was challenged in court though and was ruled unconstitutional??

I have been in the Construction trades for over 30 years and every job, every contractor I've worked for require a drug test or show a current drug testing card as proof of being drug free.
So why should it be different with lawmakers to have the same requirements.

If you want to drive on campus or participate in extracurricular activities you get randomly tested. I know kids have been caught and later went on to college and gotten their education. I feel like it helps the parent to know what their kid is up to before it is too late. I'd hate to find out through an overdose or even an arrest that could spoil a kids future. At our school, once they test clean they can participate again.

I found out my son smoked weed with his friends through a video he made. He was scared they were going to do something to him.. I got him in a different school and he gratuities college in May 8 days before he graduates high school if this next semester goes ok
