MTA, Historical Society will preserve Subway Therapy sticky notes

Source: Albany Times-Union

The New York Historical Society and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will team up to preserve the post-election sticky-note outpouring dubbed “Subway Therapy.”

Days after the election of Donald Trump, Cuomo himself posted a note at the 14th Street-Union Square subway station. (His message: “New York State holds the torch high! … ‘Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free … I lift my lamp beside the golden door’ Emma Lazarus … STATUE OF LIBERTY”– Andrew C.”)

The majority of the notes opposed President-elect Donald Trump, either tacitly or directly.

Cuomo said the project would “preserve a powerful symbol that shows how New Yorkers of all ages, races and religions came together to say we are one family, one community and we will not be torn apart.”

I live in New York City. Like many places across the country, New York City was pretty somber the day after the election. I get off the subway at that stop a lot. It is moving and comforting to read the notes from people. There are always people adding post it notes whenever I walk by. I'm glad that they are preserving it. The election of Trump is a national tragedy.
