Anti-Semitic website calls for action in Montana
Source: The Missoulian http://missoulian.com/
An anti-Semitic website called The Daily Stormer has posted a call to "TAKE ACTION" against Jewish people in Whitefish, providing personal contact information and urging a "troll storm" against them.
The story claims the "vicious, evil race" has harmed the Whitefish business of Richard Spencer's mother. It quotes a story from the British newspaper Daily Mail that said Sherry Spencer "said she is being forced to sell a building she owns in the small town because residents are rebelling against her son."
The site posted phone numbers, email addresses, and Twitter handles for the Whitefish residents it alleges are harassing Sherry Spencer, along with a disclaimer that it opposes violence.
Richard Spencer is president and director of the National Policy Institute, which the Southern Poverty Law Center has identified as a hate group. The institute is "dedicated to the heritage, identity, and future of people of European descent in the United States, and around the world."

Its own article on this reveals that the local Jewish community is so marginal that it doesn't have a synagogue or a rabbi ....

... there is at least one retired rabbi in the town but she earns her living as a writer, and is not retained by a congregation.
So, either it's this small handful of local Jews, or else it's that Richard Spencer has become obnoxious to plenty of the local Christians.

WHITEFISH -- An anti-discrimination group took a step Friday to distance Whitefish from Richard Spencer, at the same time Spencer told the Missoulian he would probably be putting some distance between himself and the ski resort community.
The white nationalist and alt-right movement leader most recently made national news last weekend with shouts of Hail Trump! Hail our people! Hail victory! as he and his followers -- some of whom responded with Nazi-like salutes -- celebrated, in Washington, D.C., the election of Donald Trump as president of the United States.
Trump disavowed their support afterward.
Spencer, president of a white supremacist think tank called the National Policy Institute, is often identified in news stories as a resident, or part-time resident, of Whitefish.
We want to get the message out that we dont embrace his rhetoric, Whitefish Mayor John Muhlfeld said after Love Lives Here distributed a news release designed to counteract the Richard Spencer news coverage and communicate that the community of Whitefish does not ascribe to his views.

(42,602 posts)While fighting words - a very narrow category- are not protected, there is no categorical exception to the First Amendment for hate speech. That is the clear import of several SCOTUS decisions including Snyder v Phelps.
