Boy, 3, out shopping with grandma dies in road rage shooting
Source: Yahoo News
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) A 3-year-old boy being taken on a shopping trip by his grandmother was killed in a road rage shooting when a driver opened fire on the grandmother's car because he thought she "wasn't moving fast enough at a stop sign," police said.
The boy and his grandmother were at the stop sign in southwest Little Rock on Saturday evening when a driver apparently angry about the delay stepped out of his car and opened fire, police said. The boy was struck by gunfire at least once, they said.
The grandmother, who wasn't struck, drove away and called police from a shopping center.
Police arrived at the shopping center and found the boy in the car outside a JCPenney department store. The boy was taken to a hospital, where he died shortly after, becoming the second young child shot dead in a road rage incident in the city in the last few weeks.

(5,914 posts)How irresponsible for her to not have, at the very least, a sawed-off 12-gauge on hand. That would have shut down the situation before it could get out of hand.
Caregivers with small children should learn from this. When buckling the kids in their safety seats, also make sure that your guns are in the car and that you have rounds chambered in all of them. We're talking basic safety here, people. Use your common sense!

(5,914 posts)No reason why a properly supervised baby shouldn't strap on an iron and be ready for action. The carelessness in this situation is just unbelievable.
it is starting to feel like we are living in a Mad Max world.
We've been in an armed madhouse for decades and now Bif Tannen was elected president.

(2,412 posts)I have noticed an uptick in honking, tailgating, taking an illegal right of way at four way stops, running red lights, and other aggressive behaviors when out driving even in polite Portland, Oregon. People are angry and they are getting more and more aggressive. I guess the new meme is "We don't need no stinking laws!".

(35,324 posts)road. I see a guy pulling out of an end parking space going to same direction as me I come to a stop and let him to pull out, as a courtesy. He makes a U-turn right in front of me and is heading in the opposite direction. I don't know what sets him off I see his mouth going F'n me for something. I just threw my hands up and shrugged my shoulders motioning that I didn't know what pissed him off. His mouth is still going and he starts running his window down. I just smiled, waved and drove off. There is a case right there where if another nut job had met him and was armed someone could have been shot. I still have no clue why he was pissed off.
I just don't get why everyone is so angry. A guy I grew up with was going on about how things are going to change when Trump gets in. I said I could not vote for anyone that Putin helped get elected. He says you believe that shit, I said the FBI and the CIA does and Newsweek broke the story weeks ago. He tells me he doesn't believe anything the government or the Communist media says. He said you hear that bullshit on MSNBC and CNN (the Clinton News Network) he said they should call CNN (Communist Clinton News Network). I said well Putin didn't support Hillary Clinton. The thing I don't get is the guy is pissed off at the world he had a good business he sold for I heard $5 million, a beautiful home, his daughter has a good job working for an airline and lives in Colorado, his son has a good job and just built a big McMansion next to him. WHAT THE F--- IS ARE THEY PISSED OFF ABOUT.

That's why they are pissed. They live in fear of losing power, control, and things.

(55,894 posts)1. Human neurobiology rewards anger.
Part of the issue is that in the moment anger feels good, feels like the thing to do. It overrides all other moral and rational brakes in the brain because it originates from our primordial, original limbic system: the brain center of our most automatic emotions like fear and desire. The limbic system has the most direct links to our fight-or-flight response system, and that includes control over adrenaline rushes, alertness, and other instincts that prime you for battle or rapid escape.
2. Anger is similar to other addictions.
What happens is that anger can lead to similar rushes as thrill-seeking activities where danger triggers dopamine reward receptors in the brain, or like other forms of addiction such as gambling, extreme sports, even drugs like cocaine and methamphetamines. Anger can become its own reward, but like other addictions, the final consequences are dangerous and real, and people follow impulses in the moment without regard to the big picture.
3. Anger boosts ego fragility.
There is also the psychological aspect of ego fragility and injury, often seen in narcissistic personalities; the rush behind anger can be triggered by underlying feelings of weakness or insecurity, a way to feel powerful in the moment and overcome those feelings. It also helps people feel briefly in control of things they typically have no control over. Unfortunately, the aftermath reinforces negative consequences that hurt you in the eyes of others, and continues the cycle of insecurity. It becomes a vicious cycle of tantrums and punishment that ultimately hurt the angry individual.
4. Anger may be familiar/comfortable and also a method of emotional avoidance.
Unfortunately for some people who are raised in continuously chaotic environments, the uncertainty and volatility of anger might become perversely comfortable, might help distract from or escape underlying uncomfortable feelings of emptiness or fear. The rush of drama and conflict feels familiar and produces a destructive intimacy that some might prefer than to confront other darker emotions like loss or grief or more. Aside from traumatic family environments, combat veterans are also at risk of similar addiction, as they remain in high-threat situations for long and repeated periods of time.

(4,229 posts)One thing my job and life have taught me is people are impulsive.
It's rare for people tp truly think about the consequences of their actions before acting.
People have sex without protection and unwanted children or HIV change things for the rest of their lives.
People shoot up with a shared needle and then die of liver failure due to Hep C.
People get pissed and quit a good job with benefits and then wind up working at substandard wages at another job till they are 70.
People start shooting and spend the rest of their lives in jail.
That's why I think that the whole allowing people to carry a gun anywhere is such a bad idea. I mean somebody makes deliveries in a bad part of town, maybe they should be armed. They carry a lot of money something like that.
But too many people carry guns BECAUSE THEY CAN, and there is a potential for something like this or even a tragic accident.
Where I live I know a lot of people who carry guns, most don't really need them. Now my one neighbor always carries one on a walk and I understand because twice he has been attacked by dogs and even had to have surgery on his hand, but
most carry them for the same reason people have confederate flags. Sort of a redneck fuck you to people who don't think people should carry them.
I have lots of guns, but i never carry one because I feel safe. I have trouble carrying a watch without losing it. Most people are like me there's no reason they should carry one but they do. Then they lose their temper and their bad decision ruins their and other peoples lives.

(18,470 posts)Thought, mind you. That's all. Even if I got one I still might not actually get a gun, but just have the permit to make it easier to obtain a weapon if things got that bad.
LGBT, minorities, etc - I could not fault any of them for buying weapons with all the hate crimes the Branch Trumpvidians are pulling off these days.

(45,410 posts)first consider whether DUers who know nothing about you or your situation would find fault.
JK
Concealed carry makes a lot of sense. Open carry is just plain stupid and has already caused problems in mass shooter situations where cops didn't know who was the shooter. Also in situations where an open carry person and a concealed carry person had a misunderstanding that resulted in shooting, the concealed carry person won.
I don't own any guns or a permit. But if I needed to protect myself or loved ones from a racist Trumper/klansman, I would most definitely ignore the opinions of judgmental DUers.

All these guns in the hands of idiots who don't know how to handle a tense situation or talk someone down from an aggressive behavior really bothers me.
It's one of the reasons I want to move out of North Carolina--which is an open carry state--because there are way too
many people with guns who have no business having guns.

I see people inching up to my bumper because i actually stop at a stop sign all the time.
Last Friday on the way home, i got flipped off by a guy because i was doing 52 in a 55 ON A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY! There was zero impediment to him just going around me. Somehow, having to change lanes with no chance of oncoming traffic was so inconvenient that it pissed him off.

Do these people wallow in hate or are they only venting? I think these random shootings are going to become far more common. What's going to happen to all these armed Trump supporters should they figure out they've been hoodwinked and manipulated for years?
Amazing how quickly and "older black Chevrolet Impala" became a black driver/shooter.
