GOP Congressman Urges Self-Rationing Of Health Care After Obamacare Repeal
Source: Huffington Post
Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-Mich.) says theres definitely going to be changes in health care delivery after Republicans repeal the Affordable Care Act, and people are going to need to take more responsibility for the cost of their treatment.
He gave a personal example of how do this: When his 10-year-old son recently fell on the driveway one evening and injured his arm, Huizenga waited until the next day to take him to the doctor because it cost less than bringing him to the emergency room that night.
We werent sure what was going on, the GOP lawmaker said in a Monday interview with a local news outlet, MLive.com. So I splinted it up, and we wrapped it up, and the decision was, okay, do we go to the E.R.? We thought it was a sprain, but werent sure. Took every precaution and decided to go in the next morning.
It turned out his sons arm was broken.
At a time when Republicans are broadcasting plans to repeal the Affordable Care Act next year, its an unsettling proposition that people with an undiagnosed and potentially serious ailment or broken body part should choose to get treated later, or less often, to save money.

(53 posts)This politician has the best insurance available or he could have just paid the bill. It's not like politicians are destitute. He is just an asshole and it wasn't his arm. Republicans have the same attitude about being sick as my Army platoon Sgt. when someone asked to go on sick call. "You're sick?.... then die and prove it." That broken arm would have cost a parent about twelve dollars in the Netherlands where they have single payer.

Anybody that would hold treatment on an injured child to save a few bucks is a bastard. Anyone that would use a story like that is a prick bastard.

(27,546 posts)I have some questions there idiot , I was going to call you brainiyak, but you just don't quite make it above the level of S*** coming out of you mouth.
Have you ever gone into ****ing cardic arrest, while you are having a heart attack, there dip****?
Do you think, there doctor whatever you name is, since you think you are one.
Do you think, I should have waited until the next ****ing day, just to make sure that I was in ****ing pain ass****, so that I could save a ****ing buck?
While I was withering on the floor like a dead fish gasping for air and screaming about the pain and wanting it to stop jerk****. And then when the medics got there I had died twice once in the house and once on the way to the hospital, and then waking up and not knowing what the hell happened, because dip*** you don't know, your life is a complete blank.
Do you know dip**** what you see when you go into a cardiac arrest, well let me give you a clue, you don't see angels, you don't see a ****ing light at the end of a tunnel you are ****ing dead.
So why don't you come over to my house and will have a discussion about saving a buck!!!!
Let me tell you how much it cost in just the hospital bill for the three days I was there, over $65,000, let me repeat that, over $65,000
And then we can discuss why your being paid from the tough of the taxpayers to be a complete ass****
So F* ass**** and the ****ing horse you road in on, you are total embarrassment to what constitutes as compassion in your fascists party, and its not having any ----------------------none, zilch, nada,
And has soon a human beings start calling you what you are, an a ****ng that better off they will be and this country has as whole.
And just think you were talking about your own kid, doesn't that constitute child abuse, because if I were to do that in any shape or form, the hospital would have someone from somewhere calling me up.
You do realize that your kid could have developed gangrene are you that ignorant

They'll be denying coverage, cancelling coverage, changing coverage, demanding HUGE co-pays. . . It won't take ANYTHING to be denied coverage. (100,133 posts)When I found myself divorced with 2 preschoolers I went out of my way to get a job with health care benefits. The job was not well paid (secretary) but by God I took the kids to the doctor when they needed it.
My parents did the best they could in the years they were raising us 4 kids, but my brother had untreated asthma, my sister got one strep throat after another, I broke a toe and my overwhelmed mother just barked at me to straighten it out myself and tape it, we had a staph infection that ping-ponged around the house for a year before my mother finally defeated it with bleach, boiling water, and a product called Perma-Chem which is probably illegal now. (As an adult I realized that a couple of visits to the doctor and some shots of penicillin could have stopped that infection cycle in its tracks.)
Self-rationing my rosy Irish ass.
