Get my work off your walls: Artists are horrified to be in Ivanka Trumps art collection

Ivanka Trump is incredibly proud of the art collection she has amassed and prominently features works by contemporary artists in her Instagram and other social media feeds.

According to Bloomberg News, however, some of the artists she has featured are less than proud to know that their work has been purchased by the daughter of the president-elect.

These artists not only don’t want to be associated with the divisive, historically unpopular incoming president, they feel that their work is being co-opted as aesthetic window dressing for the 35-year-old heiress’ personal brand.

. . .

When Ivanka Trump was a socialite and heiress, artists were perfectly happy to do business with her. Now, however, having seen the role she played in her father’s rise to power and anticipating how she will function in his government, they are finding themselves faced with a moral conundrum.

If she has their artwork and knows them might be more productive to try to contact her and let her know their fears about her dad and the things they are for. Might be the best way of reaching her.

The horse has left the barn as far as their purchased art goes, but there is no reason that they could not create art that would be embarrassing to the Trump family. If they were in gallery's once, they stand a good chance of getting another show.

but they sold the art, and unless she's breaking some copyright laws...

This seems overly harsh to me anyway. Ivanka has done nothing wrong, and appears possibly to be sane. A sane person in the Trump entourage is a good thing.

In fact they might have her ear - better than judge alienating her. I see they think she did wrong by helping him, though she may have thought he was going to lose, too. I bet they are all shocked he actually has to do the work (though he won't).

12. First-sale doctrine

The first sale doctrine, codified at 17 U.S.C. § 109, provides that an individual who knowingly purchases a copy of a copyrighted work from the copyright holder receives the right to sell, display or otherwise dispose of that particular copy, notwithstanding the interests of the copyright owner.

That artists are shit out of luck. They sold their art, and gladly took payment.

I can't stand Twitler, or his family, but the artists should find another way to register their protest.

I sold some aluminum siding to a couple who years later put up a Trump sign.

I told them to take their siding off their house and they won't do it.

Unreasonable fascists.

then don't sell your work

that is like bruce springsteen telling someone who bought his cd to not play it at a private party because he doesn't like their politics

same can be said for actors & movie goers

authors & the several people who still read books
