Carmelo Anthony stuns cancer patient's family with car for Christmas

Source: ESPN

NEW YORK –- Carmelo Anthony helped deliver a Christmas Day miracle, and it had nothing to do with the New York Knicks playing the Boston Celtics.

The All-Star Knicks forward -- with help from his Carmelo Anthony Foundation, the Garden of Dreams Foundation and Kia –- gave a new car to Jarrell Lara and his family hours before the Knicks' 119-114 loss to the Celtics on Sunday at Madison Square Garden.

As Anthony gave the stunned family the keys to their new car, Anne Lara, Jarrell's mother, couldn't contain her emotions and began crying, her knees buckling as Anthony hugged the entire family and wished them a Merry Christmas.

"I don't think you can put that in words," Anthony said. "That is a family that I have gotten a chance to know. My foundation donated a car to them, working with Kia [and the Garden of Dreams] ... and just to see the expression on their faces, the son, one of the kids wanted to cry but held it in ... that is what it is all about."

Makes one stop and think - THIS is what life is all about, and not all professional athletes are primadonnas and "special".

Thanks Carmelo!!!

3. He makes 24 million dollars a year

That does not include the millions he gets in endorsements and corporate sponsorships (including from Kia).

So this is essentially the equivalent of an average American buying this person a sweater.

He did something when our elected officials want to take away ACA,MEDICARE, SS. Medicaid. Why do you criticize those that give and not the ones that take it away?

FFS they need to get a life. Anything given should be appreciated. The taking away should be screamed to the high heavens yet no one seems to care. ACA. SS. MEDICARE. MEDICADE. HUD. SNAPS. Dear goddess we lost our souls.

Thanks for your OP George!

Just some perspective.

There are so many people giving to charity who are barely scraping by themselves.

I would hope that someone who is making tens of millions of dollars a year would give a sizable chunk of it to the less fortunate without even thinking twice about it.

I approve 100 percent.

Ten cars for ten cancer patients would be even better.

People often share their opinions on articles that are posted. They don't have to just enjoy them for what they are.

Also, I don't celebrate Christmas.

Yet no one should be criticized for what they give. See my post to George.

DO NOT criticize those that give...criticize those that take it away.

I think what he did is great. Just like an average person donating an item of clothing to a needy individual.
