South Carolina Rep. Chris Corley arrested, charged with domestic violence

Source: Aiken Standard

South Carolina Rep. Chris Corley has been arrested after police say he assaulted a woman and pointed a handgun at her.

Corley, 36, who represents Graniteville in Aiken County in the South Carolina House of Representatives, was arrested Tuesday by the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.

Arrest warrants for Corley show he has been charged with first-degree domestic violence and pointing and presenting firearms at a person.

Warrants state Corley, in the presence of an 8-year-old child, did "cause physical harm and injury" to the victim, by "striking her about the head and face with a closed fist and further did, after threatening to kill the victim, point a Smith & Wesson ... handgun at the victim causing her to fear for her life."

Last year, when Dylann Roof's incitement to race war led to the removal of the rebel flag from over the Statehouse, he tried to get the vote put off for a year. Last Christmas he sent the other members a card with the flag on it and this bit of wisdom:

In December 2015, Corley sent a Christmas card featuring a photo of the Confederate flag at the State House to some his fellow representatives, advising they ask for forgiveness for their betrayal. He said at the time that the card was meant for lawmakers who chose speedy political correctness over the views of their constituents.

“May your Christmas be filled with memories of a happier time when South Carolina’s leaders possessed morals, convictions and the principles to stand for what is right,” the card read. It finishes with: “May you have a blessed Christmas, and may you take this joyous time as an opportunity to ask for forgiveness of all your sins such as betrayal.”

Karma sure is a bitch, ain't it.

I guess I've always saw Karma as some sort of cosmic force that balances things out, and this didn't seem to require a cosmic force. His problems are a direct result of his own actions, which would certainly fit the description of Karma you posted, but I've never really thought of it that way.

It's the direct result of actions and inactions by the person. Your Karma only comes back to you and not to others. You are accountable and karma holds you to account. This is considered the fundamental law of existence in Metaphysics.

Karma rules everything that you do or don't do. By don't do I mean when you choose to not do something, like defend the helpless, help someone in need, etc. It's about the choice to do nothing. Of course, karma also includes all the 'good' things that happen to you. This kind of karma is more numerous than the 'bad' kind.

But all karma is how one learns and evolves into being better, more caring, etc.

a great deal of research in the years right after ww2.
they are authoritarian followers. mostly traumatized and damaged by a violent upbringing.

john dean wrote a book about it during the bush years. "conservatives without conscience"

i have said many times that we have to end domestic violence and abusive child rearing tactics if we are ever going to solve the problems of the world. certainly if we are ever going to achieve peace.

i also personally believe that a big part of the link here is traumatic brain injury. srsly. this is being looked into here in cook county by the juvenile justice system. they have started doing neuro exams on the kids who have low iq's or other problems.
they are finding tbi's

i have talked to a couple of my state legislators, trying to get them to add a check box on the school health forms for concussions or other brain injuries.
we make sure their teeth are sound, their eyes are sound, but we dont even ask about their brains.
i contend that there is not a punk on the street corner w a gun in his hand that has never had his head put through the wall, or been punched in the head by a caregiver.
i wanted to do a survey outside chicago high schools asking about concussions and seizures. my daughter has seizures from a brain injury, and we had no idea that many of the things she was experiencing, auras, people lurking in the shadows, other hallucinations, were actually seizures.
i would put money that you would find a huge correlation between failures in school and broken brains. duh.

Wonder how many people earn label of Schizophrenia but are having seizures?
Because once you get that label, even from a mistaken diagnosis, it is almost impossible to get it changed in all the paperwork that gets generated by different agencies/hospitals/legal system/schools, etc.

i think that is starting to dissolve. but man. talk about stovepipes.
you are exactly right. in fact, the kid got a checkbox dx of ptsd. she has a lot of medical issues, likely due to same injury, that also check off some of the boxes.
there is a big med overlap, too.

more innocuous things lurk in medical records, too. sometimes forever.
of course, always the exception, the kid turned out to actually have the clotting disorder that she was screened and cleared for as a teenager.
sharp eyed surgeons assistant saw it and decided it was important enough to repeat the test. which leads us to another one- sometimes test results are wrong.
yes, so much dreck in the record. so many labels.

if it were my kin getting that dx, knowing what i know, i would drag their butts to the best neurologist i could find. i would comb their records and memories for head injuries that might have gone unnoticed at the time. i would insist on a sleep test.

true as it is that mental illness is a disease of the brain just like any other organ, we dont routinely refer people to doctors who study the workings of the brain, as opposed to the mind.
at least i was smart enough to demand sleep studies when she was younger, and she got at least some relief that way. the sleep doc, who is a neurologist, is the one who started to suspect the epilepsy. several shrinks who are supposed to be md's missed it.
we badly need really definitive tests for mental illnesses. hit and miss checkboxes are killing people.

i cant wait much longer for the next generation of medicine. on so many fronts, i have people who are slowly dying.

i am so hungry

"The sometimes brash and controversial lawmaker has continued to make headlines since he took office in 2014 after easily defeating Democrat Rosie Berry for the House District 84 seat. "

In South Carolina these days, they probably automatically assume that any white elected official is a Republican, unless specifically designated otherwise. If he had been a Democrat committing such offenses, you can bet that his party affiliation would have been in the first paragraph if not already in the headline.
