Mother Jones' Kevin Drum completely destroys Fox News' attempts at claiming there is 70 million dollars of fraud being committed on our food stamp program known as SNAP.
Fox News' Abby Huntsman claimed that food stamp fraud is at an all time high and asked, "...this year it's estimated $70 million dollars of taxpayer money was wasted on food stamp fraud. Is it time to end the program altogether?"
I'd love to see Fox News do a story on all the billionaires and corporations that cheat the US government and the American people out of billions of dollars so they can relax in their villas.
Unfortunately, they are more interested in attacking people just trying to get a meal.

(3,977 posts)that the USA has to give out corporate welfare ( lets face it , if Walmart etc paid a living wage , we wouldn't need most of this) to the tune of 71Bn , is a fucking disgrace.
But I agree its a v-small % fraud.

(59,522 posts)itself and in relation to the Republican boondoggle programs.
But the problem is that the residents of Dumbfucktrumpistan will see that $70 million as being taken out of their own personal pockets by a black or Hispanic or female hand. They will never stop to think about the food stamps that THEY receive every month. They will simply shout louder for "those people" to be stopped.
Whether we like it or not, once Fox says it, it becomes something that half the country believes.

Just because someone lives in a red state doesn't mean they voted for Trump.
Trump won by what... 10000 votes in Michigan? Something sad like that.
That means you guys would condemn half an entire state of democrats as Trump voters.
That's wrong.
Also, just because someone needs food stamps doesn't mean they are republican. There are a whole hell of a lot of democrats who need help too.
Stop demonizing the other side, that's what republicans do.
A friend of mine posted a black lives matter meme on fb showing the hypocrisy of the people who then spout "all lives matter" when they clearly don't to them. My response is not only do all lives matter... but #EvenTrumpsLifeMatters
A terrible hashtag but there it is. And that's where I think most democrats fall. It's why we're democrats.

National Health Care Fraud Takedown Results in Charges against 301 Individuals for Approximately $900 Million in False Billing
Most Defendants Charged and Largest Alleged Loss Amount in Strike Force History
Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell announced today an unprecedented nationwide sweep led by the Medicare Fraud Strike Force in 36 federal districts, resulting in criminal and civil charges against 301 individuals, including 61 doctors, nurses and other licensed medical professionals, for their alleged participation in health care fraud schemes involving approximately $900 million in false billings. Twenty-three state Medicaid Fraud Control Units also participated in todays arrests. In addition, the HHS Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is suspending payment to a number of providers using its suspension authority provided in the Affordable Care Act. This coordinated takedown is the largest in history, both in terms of the number of defendants charged and loss amount.
Attorney General Lynch and Secretary Burwell were joined in the announcement by Assistant Attorney General Leslie R. Caldwell of the Justice Departments Criminal Division, FBI Associate Deputy Director David Bowdich, Inspector General Daniel Levinson of the HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG), Acting Director Dermot OReilly of the Defense Criminal Investigative Service (DCIS), and Deputy Administrator and Director of CMS Center for Program Integrity Shantanu Agrawal M.D.
The defendants announced today are charged with various health care fraud-related crimes, including conspiracy to commit health care fraud, violations of the anti-kickback statutes, money laundering and aggravated identity theft. The charges are based on a variety of alleged fraud schemes involving various medical treatments and services, including home health care, psychotherapy, physical and occupational therapy, durable medical equipment (DME) and prescription drugs. More than 60 of the defendants arrested are charged with fraud related to the Medicare prescription drug benefit program known as Part D, which is the fastest-growing component of the Medicare program overall.
As this takedown should make clear, health care fraud is not an abstract violation or benign offense It is a serious crime, said Attorney General Lynch. The wrongdoers that we pursue in these operations seek to use public funds for private enrichment. They target real people many of them in need of significant medical care. They promise effective cures and therapies, but they provide none. Above all, they abuse basic bonds of trust between doctor and patient; between pharmacist and doctor; between taxpayer and government and pervert them to their own ends. The Department of Justice is determined to continue working to ensure that the American people know that their health care system works for them and them alone.
