Istanbul nightclub attack 'leaves 35 dead'

Last edited Sat Dec 31, 2016, 08:45 PM - Edit history (1)

Source: BBC

At least 35 people have lost their lives in an attack on a nightclub in Istanbul, the city's governor has said.

Among the dead is one police officer, Vasip Sahin stated, adding that it was a terror attack.

At least another 40 were injured in the attack which took place in the Reina nightclub, in the Ortakoy area, at about 01:30 local time (23:30 GMT).

One attacker was involved, the governor said, while CNN Turk reported he was dressed in a Santa Claus costume.

Supposedly one gunman shot the security person and then went inside and started shooting the patrons.

That's just from what I've seen so far on twitter and the like.

Also - US intelligence supposedly warned Turkey about an attack on this location.

"No group has claimed responsibility for the attack". ISIS seems most likely, since it's a mass attack on civilians (rather than Kurdish groups who normally target the police or military).

The Amish? A crazed Mennonite? A really angry Jehovah's Witness? A Mormon, Catholic or Protestant?

No, I'll take an Islamic Jihadi for 1000 please.

Of course this is a Muslim country, so that comes as no surprise - but we always go through this silly "who dunnit" phase after one of these attacks and they are virtually always Muslim extremists who are guilty of this kind of terrorism.

It could easily be Islamic extremists as you said, or it could be something like the YPG. Given the recent ways things have gone, it could even be the Turkish government itself in an attempt to use it as an excuse crack down on the people (I'm not saying that's the case or even likely)

Anyway, my point is that it's enough of a clusterfuck out there that it's hard to say for sure without looking into it.

20. How Schoolgirls Slaughtered 56 People in Nigeria in One Attack
Sun Jan 1, 2017, 01:39 AM
Jan 2017

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria—They waited until it was the Friday before the Eid el Maulud celebrating the birth of Prophet Muhammad when the Madagali market would very busy, very crowded. And then they struck: Two schoolgirls blew themselves up.
In that one attack on December 9 in Nigeria’s northeastern Adamawa state 56 people died.
There was little doubt that a faction of Boko Haram was behind it.

arrives by taxi to the top Istanbul night club dressed as father Christmas, kills the door guard. shoots inside & then looks like a ninja using outside 'cover' as he shoots his way to an escape. in the same taxi?

imo, another professional well trained like the killer of the diplomat at the art museum. except this man got away.

RT the government owned media was only one that showed some security footage, everything else they said had the 'blame IS' usual for that media.

Plenty more will come out over the next days, but the facts will be blurred with speculation & opinion. That shooter was a professional, just like the person who shot the diplomat in the art gallery.

And the PM said that talking to the press - it was reported in a tweet, but you can see a picture of him talking above it, and that is also reported elsewhere, eg http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-38484029 .

The person in the gallery was a trained policeman, yes. That doesn't mean you can say they had a connection to this person. You';re actually speculating yourself.

RT showed part of the video of the shooters escape. I think all the disruption terrorist attacks in Turkey the past year are connected. The first was the major airport terrorist attack, the third largest airport in the world. 2 of those bombers were from Russia.

Someone intends to destabilize Turkey, make them back away from a longtime international connections, the UN, EU trade, tourist industry, Allies. IMO to destabilize Turkey is Russia's objective.
