CNN strikes back at Trump after he attacks them: We are confident in Russia dossier reporting

After a contentious exchange between CNN political reporter Jim Acosta and Donald Trump in Wednesdays press conferencein which the president-elect refused to answer Acostas question and suggested the network spread fake newsCNN released a statement defending their reporting on the story in question: the existence of a memo containing salacious allegations against Donald Trump and suggesting that they might impact his relationship with Russia.

In the past few days media organizations handling of the documents have stirred debate. The CNN article referenced the existence of the memo, but did not provide details that they could not confirm. Buzzfeed then published the memo in its entirety, prompting critics to argue that they were irresponsibly spreading unverifiable information. The president-elect called Buzzfeed a failing pile of garbage.

On Wednesday, CNN distanced itself from Buzzfeed with the following statement (reported by Erik Wemple):

Update:

CNN Releases Statement of Full Confidence on Russia Reporting: ‘The Trump Team Knows This’

by J.D. Durkin | 12:46 pm, January 11th, 2017

Moments ago, a CNN spokesperson released a statement on behalf of the network in direct contrast with a controversial story published by Buzzfeed Tuesday.

From a CNN spokesperson

CNN’s decision to publish carefully sourced reporting about the operations of our government is vastly different than Buzzfeed’s decision to publish unsubstantiated memos. The Trump team knows this. They are using Buzzfeed’s decision to deflect from CNN’s reporting, which has been matched by the other major news organizations. We are fully confident in our reporting. It represents the core of what the First Amendment protects, informing the people of the inner workings of their government; in this case, briefing materials prepared for President Obama and President-elect Trump last week. We made it clear that we were not publishing any of the details of the 35-page document because we have not corroborated the report’s allegations. Given that members of the Trump transition team have so vocally criticized our reporting, we encourage them to identify, specifically, what they believe to be inaccurate.

They published what they had. I believe that is called reporting. If they had said they had verified everything in those 35 pages, that would be a problem.

Maybe he made it all up but goddamn it don't call it "fake news" It's from a real intelligence source. It's not "news" and much of it certainly even a casual paying attention of facts IS TRUE. Manafort just for one. Flynn for another. Don't EVER buy Trump's narrative.

You have to pay-but maybe it's worth it I don't know. Someone here must have some access.

And I might had all intelligence is somewhat based on faith in sources. Why is Trump pro-Putin? Obviously we don't know his contacts for business. He lies. He refuses taxes.
