75-Year-Old Arrested In Sonoma County At ‘Occupy Bohemian Grove’ Protest

MONTE RIO (CBS SF) — A 75-year-old protester was arrested at an ‘Occupy Bohemian Grove’ march in Sonoma County on Saturday, according to the sheriff’s office.

As many as 100 protesters marched from an amphitheater in the town of Monte Rio to the gates of Bohemian Grove on Bohemian Avenue at about 4 p.m., according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies from the sheriff’s office and officers from the California Highway Patrol responded to keep the protesters from entering the property, the sheriff’s office said.

A panoply of liberal passions was expressed on a sunny Saturday afternoon at an Occupy Bohemian Grove protest at the Monte Rio Amphitheater.

An ensuing march to the gates of the grove resulted in the arrest of 75-year-old man later booked into county jail on suspicion of interfering with a peace officer.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office described the protest as “relatively small and peaceful.”

About 150 people, including representatives of at least 10 Occupy groups, turned out for four hours of speeches and music at the event, organized by the Bohemian Grove Action Network.

A banner over the stage said “Creation of Care,” a deliberate variation from the Cremation of Care ceremony set for Saturday night within nearby Bohemian Grove, where more than 2,000 wealthy and powerful men gathered for their annual retreat among the redwoods.

Police starting marching forward, pushing everyone out of their way, and 75 year old Doug Millar grabbed a cop's baton to gain his ballance, and was then assaulted by the officer, nearly breaking the senior citizen's arm. I spoke with Doug earlier, and he seemed like a nice man.
