Carl Bernstein: Nervous Republican officials are questioning President Trump's 'emotional stability'

Source: RawStory

26 JAN 2017 AT 08:30 ET

President Donald Trump’s obsessions with defending his inauguration crowd size and embracing false “voter fraud” conspiracies has reportedly led some members of his own party to question his emotional well being.

Reporter Carl Bernstein went on CNN Tonight with Don Lemon this week, and he said that he’s been hearing from Republicans in Washington D.C. who are concerned about the president’s overall mental health. “It is unlike anything that I have seen in 50 years of being a reporter,” said Bernstein, who first made his name by breaking stories on the Watergate scandal while working for the Washington Post. “I am hearing from Republicans, and other reporters are as well, that there is open discussion by members of the President of the United States’ own party about his emotional maturity, stability.”

Trump drew criticism even from media confidantes such as Joe Scarborough this past weekend for his speech at the CIA in which he boasted repeatedly about his inauguration’s crowd size, while at the same time sending out Press Secretary Sean Spicer to deliver an angry news conference whose sole purpose was to defend the size of the Trump inauguration’s crowds.

Apparently, these actions have been enough to raise red flags from people within his own party about his temperament. “People are saying his psyche is driving the news cycle,” said Bernstein. “We are in uncharted territory.”

Why would Republicans be the least bit worried?

Trump is doing in days what the far right and Republicans in general could only dream about.

They will put up with his twitter nonsense and lies to keep this ball rolling.

And if Trump can stay even or above water approval wise, the vast bulk of Republicans will support him from here to eternity.

Republicans view the 2018 elections as favorable to them, so they see a 4 year time line to get whatever they want done - not just 2 years. And frankly Democratic turnout in off year elections hasn't exactly been stellar so they could be right about that.

And I will say again, despite conventional wisdom here, that many of Trump's policies may actually have popular support. The average American has no clue what is really behind a lot of this stuff he is doing. Most people aren't political partisans and some of what Trump is doing may be viewed as favorable by majorities of relatively politically ignorant Americans.

The idea that Trump is just some insane buffoon who is going to burn out in short order is dangerously short sighted.

Just last night, I heard in a conversation about him, "Well, I'll tell you what, at least he's trying to do what he said he'd do!" In a few more days, I'm sure we'll hear, "Well, he may be crazy, but he gets things done!"

There are just too many of them, my god, it's like a tidal wave of stupid has swept us out to sea.

This man has shown us that he is a walking, talking, living definition of Narcissism. He was mean, vindictive and seemed to enjoy calling people names and bullying anyone who dared defy him or disagree. He relished shouting into the microphone.,.Get 'em outta here!!" And now they're concerned about his emotional stability?? For heaven's sake....they were so busy licking their chops over all the things they were going to accomplish with him that it never occurred to them the damage he could do as leader of the free world. It never crossed their minds that before they could accomplish THEIR agenda that HE HAS ONE. OMG. Would someone kindly explain to these bone heads what the rest of us have been writing and talking about for months. The man is a danger to everyone in the world and needs to be removed from office NOW before all of us pay the price for his illness. Because yes, he is seriously mentally ill.

It's been growing increasingly clear that this whole mess is probably a Russian disruption operation aimed straight at the heart of America.

Read about the book that "Putin's Brain" aka "Putin's Rasputin", Aleksander Dugin wrote in 1997:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundations_of_Geopolitics

Pay special attention to this excerpt:

The book emphasizes that Russia must spread Anti-Americanism everywhere: "the main 'scapegoat' will be precisely the U.S."

In the United States:

Russia should use its special forces within the borders of the United States to fuel instability and separatism, for instance, provoke "Afro-American racists". Russia should "introduce geopolitical disorder into internal American activity, encouraging all kinds of separatism and ethnic, social and racial conflicts, actively supporting all dissident movements – extremist, racist, and sectarian groups, thus destabilizing internal political processes in the U.S. It would also make sense simultaneously to support isolationist tendencies in American politics."[1]

Trump is nuts, and Bannon, Flynn and probably Tillerson are effectively Putin/Dugin agents.
America is trouble up to its nostrils.

Those republican officials who don't question trump's fitness for the job are going to have a hell of a lot to answer for, when this is all over. When a spineless suck-hole like Joe Scarborough is among the questioners, it's time for the rest of the republicans to register their concerns.

Given Trump's behavior on the campaign trail what did these people expect from Trump. Trump has simply been true to form so how could they not see this coming. All the media cared about was its ratings and how the unstable Trump was helping those ratings and the bottom line. Besides, what could they have been expecting from the demeaning Donald "grab 'em by the p****y" Trump? And, with this as a background, is there any doubt about why Putin so loves Donald "lock her up" Trump -- sobering thought. Far too little, too late so now we all suffer the consequences.

All of the Executive Orders Trump has signed to date have one common thread: vindictiveness. Welcome to 2017 America.

And, while we are at it, we might as well throw FBI Director Comey into the mix. His behavior has been rather irrational as well, fitting the mold of J. Edgar Hoover blended with the political loyalty of a L. Patrick Gray.

I don't have an account but I am sure there are enough folks out there who do and want to save our country by warning his orangeness about this internal threat.
