Russia propaganda turns up in US foreign policy query

Rachel explains how Russia and Belarus, formerly of the USSR, are often at odds as Belarus does its independent and Western-oriented thing and Big Bear Russia doesn't like it. Russia has put out propaganda that Belarus is now threatened with invasion by Poland. With this fake news, Putin has a pretext for upcoming military "aid" to Belarus.

The kicker: Trump senior officials are scouring agencies seeking information about this fake news. This proves to me Trump is nothing but Russia's stupid stooge. IMPEACH NOW NOT LATER

So dangerous---Trumpists taking their eyes off real security issues in favor of fake news

Belarus joined NATO’s Partnership for Peace (PfP) in 1995. NATO and Belarus have established a relationship based on the pursuit of common interests, while also keeping open channels for dialogue. Belarus has developed an Individual Partnership Programme (IPP) and participates in the Planning and Review Process (PARP).

Russia clearly wants Belarus to stay in its orbit. No doubt there's oil or need for a pipeline...

Putin's M.O., so far, seems to be disruption, corruption and shaking up confidence in democratic processes. (Remind you of anyone in the White House?)

But, yes, I agree, I wouldn't put anything past him, including nipping off bits of Poland - and the Baltic countries - and whichever neighboring countries might either provide him more naval access (thus, I believe, their longtime interest in Syria) or whose democracies or opposition he might find threatening to his autocratic rule.

The scary part is that even if/when we impeach Trump, we're still left with all this other scum, like Flynn, Bannon, Pence, and all their allies.

Congress and the judiciary and fellow citizens: the time to step up to the plate for our democracy and our country is NOW.

I have increasing confidence that we can throw them out in 2020 (if there is a country left at all by then.)
But it's the next 4 years that have me worried. If we had a parliamentary system, we could throw them all out sooner. And hopefully in 2018 we could make some legislative gains. But with impeachment, how many people can we get rid of before then?

The Trump-admin can get this idea that Poland is invading Belarus only from two possible sources:
- russian Neo-Nazi-blogs
- the unrecorded phone-call with Putin (of which only a one-sentence-summary exists in the official WH-record)

NATO/US are working more closely with the eastern part of the alliance. There's talk of a permanent US base in Poland and we've been training in Bulgaria and Romania for several years now. All that started under W, but Putin saw it and took the Crimea as a way to push back without a direct confrontation with the West. He's now sent missiles into Kaliningrad to escalate and test Trump's comprehension. This thing with Belarus is the next step.

Putin is hoping to get Trump to break NATO for him without firing a shot and recreate either the USSR or the old Russian empire.
