Yemen Raid Had Secret Target: Al Qaeda Leader Qassim Al-Rimi

The Navy SEAL raid in Yemen last week had a secret objective — the head of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, who survived and is now taunting President Donald Trump in an audio message.

Military and intelligence officials told NBC News the goal of the massive operation was to capture or kill Qassim al-Rimi, considered the third most dangerous terrorist in the world and a master recruiter.

After two months of military preparation increasingly focused on the opportunity to capture al-Rimi, Trump was told by Defense Secretary James Mattis and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff that his capture would be a "game changer," according to a senior White House official with direct knowledge of the discussions.

In making their case, they told Trump that they doubted that the Obama administration would have been bold enough to try it, this official said.

Now there was a secret target that may or may not have been there? I'm somewhat inclined to believe it was a botched op and they are trying to make the stakes look high enough to have considered going in in the first place. I don't think they got much of anything.

You easily replace bolder with reckless and wanting a stunning victory so badly they took undue risks is not good. Not to mention, he was not bin laden.

tRump is a sucker who can be manipulated by his handlers. It seems all you have to do is to make him think he is competing with Obama.

4. Why not just drone him?

If the intel said he'd be at this place, why not just launch a drone strike at him? Why risk American lives in a raid at all? I guess Trump just wanted a wild west headline. This guy's scraggly face with CAPTURED under it, showing up on CNN.
