After what it called a two-year-long examination of its policies, the Boy Scouts of America has ruled: Gay boys are still banned from Scouting.

The decision, announced Tuesday, comes just two days after a Kansas City area Eagle Scout made national headlines for being removed from a leadership position at a Boy Scout camp near St. Joseph after revealing to his camp director that he is gay.

Scouting’s announcement said the decision came after two years of consideration by an 11-person committee that had been asked to consider a resolution requesting the organization reconsider its longstanding membership policy. The committee included individuals inside and outside Boy Scouts, a statement said, and considered “a diversity of perspectives and opinions.”
