Kansas governor to veto income tax hike meant to fix budget
Source: Associated Press
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback said Tuesday that he will veto a bipartisan bill that would roll back personal income tax cuts he's championed to help balance the state budget.
The conservative Republican governor announced his planned action four days after the GOP-controlled Legislature approved the measure. The bill's tax increases would raise more than $1 billion over two years starting in July.
Brownback has criticized the measure as harmful to middle-class families and small business owners. Supporters say it's necessary to help close projected budget shortfalls totaling nearly $1.1 billion through June 2019.
Kansas has struggled to balance the budget since GOP lawmakers slashed personal income taxes in 2012 and 2013 at Brownback's urging. Brownback and his allies continue to argue that the tax cuts he championed are creating economic growth and the state's problems were largely caused by slumps in agriculture and oil production.

(53,166 posts)That person is going to have to fix what Brownback broke, and the tax increases and spending cuts it will take will immediately damn him or her to the bowels of hell. But it's what's got to happen.

(35,176 posts)He will take it on the chin as he leaves with a grin on his face because surely there is some pay back from someone somewhere for all the crap he has actually taken for hanging on like this all this time. I do believe he actually believes this too but he will be well cared for I am certain.
So when it comes time for the morons, and the rest of us, to vote the majority who are sadly totally tied to the Republican party will see that their team tried to fix it but mean old Brownback would not let them. They will all keep their jobs, Brownback will go out and they will feel so good about their party that we will end up with governor Kobach.
I hope the Democrats, who are working very hard to fix this mess, are ready for this. It is not going to be pretty.
**this is just how I see it, it happens here all the time and they actually mentioned this in their plans, a back off right before the election to help people feel good about them.

I guess the majority of voters in Kansas don't give a fuck about their schools. I hear there are HUGE signs to recruit KS teachers for Missouri and other neighboring states as budget cuts for education have been enormous.

(31,997 posts)because of his mess our school district had to close several schools and programs.
I have had Crohn's disease for 10 years. Have been in the hospital several times almost died more than once.
6 years ago I was put at a program for "last chance" kiddos. It was perfect for me and the Crohn's. Low student to teacher ratio and planning time to work with chemo time and I was getting a lot better...doctor even mentioned remission.
Last year the program was gutted specifically due to Brownstain and his damned budget. Back into a large school with almost 200 students daily and it seemed most of those students acted a lot worse than my "bad kids" and most of the time there were no consequences. I had a kid cut his pubic hair in class and I was called down for sending that kid out.
Well, in Nov I got super sick and many thought I wouldn't last to Christmas. I got some time off and was able to have a couple of procedures and changed medicine and am slowly getting better. I am due to return to work after spring break and hopefully I can last the 9 weeks.
I blame brownback and his god damned tax plan for all of it
