George W. Bush opens up on Trump's war with the media, Russia and travel ban
Source: TODAY
In a wide-ranging interview that shied away from directly criticizing the current commander in chief, former President George W. Bush said it's critical for the media to hold accountable people who abuse their power." He also rejected the current administrations controversial immigration policy.
"I consider the media to be indispensable to democracy. We needed the media to hold people like me to account," Bush told TODAY in an exclusive interview. "Power can be very addictive and it can be corrosive, and its important for the media to call to account people who abuse their power."

(7,432 posts)43 is implying that he'd need the press to contain HIS OWN power were he still in the position. 43 is just as addicted to that kind of power as anyone in the office. I don't miss that asshole one bit. He only sounds reasonable because he's retired.

(14,564 posts)there is no more glaring example of our slide into an emergent authoritarian, fascist state than the fact that W looks like a fucking founding father at this point ...

(22,651 posts)Republican party must have had their Russia collusion hacking contacts for many, many years. Pandered to 'crazy trump, the uncaught-criminal' for a couple years because he's the best patsy the Republican party ever had.
His daily fox viewing and daily call in interviews on fox were/are exactly what a man like him needs. Even Palin turned over the Bagge(R) reins to him and melted away.

He's clearly been set up as one of the convenient stooges, to be used to attempt to rescue the Rs from the death of the party that Rump will assuredly cause. When GWBu$h is being portrayed in the media today as "rational", history MUST be remembered and cited.

(90,690 posts)Because it seems to me to be bad karma to actively wish for harm to another, I used to pray that Dubya and his cabal would be stricken by Sudden Enlightenment, a complete understanding of the harm they were causing. As far as I am concerned, that really would be Hell.
Dubya left the White House and has been publicly very very quiet about matters of State. I will never like the man and will never excuse him or the rest of them. Good -- he should be.
Somehow, tho, this feels like a breakthrough.
Credit where credit's due.

(245 posts)I think this is a great development and shows the power of hindsight. I really believe Bush was more misguided than malevolently evil as 45. And this puts the republicans in a spot. Now one of theirs is against the petty orange man.

(976 posts)W was the worst president in history, so far. But if he is willing to join the fight to preserve democracy against authoritarianism then we should welcome him to the fight.
