State Senator Slams Trump After Son's JCC Pre-K Gets Bomb Threats

On Monday morning, the Levine Jewish Community Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, received its third bomb threat in two months. This time, administrators were used to the drill. They didn't even evacuate just had law enforcement sweep the premises and went along with their day. State Sen. Jeff Jackson, whose son Owen is enrolled in pre-K at Levine JCC, learned about the newest threat on Twitter while in line for lunch at Chipotle.
That's how routine bomb threats have become at Jewish Community Centers and the preschools many of them house; more than 100 such threats have been received at JCCs around the country since President Trump took office.
"We've had three bomb threats in the last five years, and they've all happened in the last 60 days," {Sen. Jeff} Jackson, a Democrat who represents North Carolina's 37th district, tells Rolling Stone. "Find me the person who thinks that's a coincidence."
He places the blame squarely at Trump's feet. "Only one big thing has changed in American society in the last 60 days that would have any connection to this whatsoever," he says.

But hey, it was just Jews toppling their own headstones "to make people or to make others look bad," as our Great Orange Leader hath proclaimed, right? Right?

I was actually AT the JCC when the most recent bomb threat happened. Didn't even know until I left that there was a problem.

I have been a member for ages. The police have always walked through occasionally and they have a visible and active security team. But there are now two police cars parked out front at all times. I cut through the campus on foot sometimes. I even know some of the security team. But they are clearly tracking me (or anyone on foot) now. I try to stay away from buildings if I am not actually entering one, just to make them more comfortable.
Members I chatted with are not scared. They ARE mad at Trump for insinuating they were calling in threats on their own temples.

(11,243 posts)All of his fear-mongering and lies incite the more unstable and unhinged of his supporters. Trump thinks he is in control, that he is using them, but he is not. You cannot pick and choose when you enable racists. Mob mentality takes control and things go off the rails fast.

(51,020 posts)our President can't speak out against the attacks on Jewish community centers or the murder of Indian engineers, or the mass murder in Canada because liberal snowflakes have bullied him into silence.
Remember him condemning this in his speech to Congress? Me neither.

(96,657 posts)That you've become so accustomed to the threats, you no longer get the kids and the staff outside to safety.
Always evacuate.
Sooner or later, a bomb will go off.
And those domestic terrorists making the threats - and any domestic terrorists reading the paper - now know you don't evacuate.
Please - don't allow yourself to become so inured at the lack of bombs found because it only takes one time - one bomb - to kill everyone in the building.
Yes, it's a hassle. Yes, it can be like choosing to live in fear or not letting the haters get the best of you.
But you can't take the chance that there won't be a bomb eventually. You can't.
Trump has gotten the haters so pumped up they are liable to do anything.
Please - evacuate. Please.

(96,657 posts)I am worried about them letting people know they don't evacuate. Some idiot with actual bomb-making skills could bring the building down.

(987 posts)I have two grandchildren in a JCC daycare center. In January, they were evacuated due to a bomb threat.
I think that ignoring the threat and going on about their day was/is a very bad thing to do. THIS TIME it was a threat. Maybe not the next time.
Perhaps the perpetrators are just hoping for this result--keeping the kids in place while sweeping the building. Next step--actual bomb.
Additionally, it is now "advertised" by the news that they didn't evacuate. The hate and anger is omnipresent and we must remain on high alert.
I'm so sorry to read about this.
