White House Staff Told to Preserve Russia-Related Materials

Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — White House lawyers have instructed the president's aides to preserve materials that could be connected to Russian interference in the 2016 election and other related investigations, three administration officials said Wednesday.

The memo, which was sent to White House staff on Tuesday, comes after Senate Democrats last week asked the White House and law enforcement agencies to keep all materials involving contacts that Trump's administration, campaign and transition team — or anyone acting on their behalf — have had with Russian government officials or their associates.

The Senate intelligence committee, which is investigating Russia's role in the 2016 election, has also asked more than a dozen organizations, agencies and individuals to preserve relevant records.

John Dean was a White House Lawyer who ended up serving time because he became embroiled in the cover up of Watergate crimes, not the original commission of them. This action is meaningless in terms of actually securing evidence, but I take it as a good omen that some White House lawyer see a need to document their compliance with an investigation. This is bad PR news for Trump, so the timing of this White House legal order going public now just seems self serving for the lawyer who issued it. Congressional committees had already asked for this material to be secured a while ago. If Trump himself has wanted to make a big display of showing cooperation he would have done so immediately after those orders went out, with highly visible public orders to his administration to cooperate fully in every way possible with the probes.

tRump issuing orders to cooperate? He is KING, voted into office by BIGLY margin. He is doing things HIS way (by order of President Bannon) and first lady Ivanka. Little Jeff NO REGARD Sessions will find himself cut loose SOON. Getting caught lying is against the rules at thhis WH. Lying is par for the course, getting CAUGHT is a no-no.

So then the question is why did anyone in the White House issue them? That's what I was wondering. I read someone speculate that it could be because a subpoena was received.
