Republican Congressman Falls Apart And Admits That Sick People Will Be Screwed On Trumpcare

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by NancyBlueINOklahoma (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: Politicus USA

By Jason Easley on Fri, Mar 10th, 2017 at 4:16 pm

Rep. Bill Flores (R-TX) fell apart while MSNBC’s Kate Snow was questioning him on what would happen if someone got sick while on the Republican Obamacare replacement plan. His answers revealed that folks would be screwed.

(snip)

What Flores was admitting was sick people are going to be left with few options under Trumpcare. You won’t be able to go on Medicaid, because after the first two years, Medicaid is going to be cut. The only option for a person who gets sick will be to get into an expensive high-risk pool that will limit their coverage.

Rep. Flores also admitted that Republicans are going to be raising prices and rationing care. The point designing policies and limiting what people can buy based on age is to give older individuals less health care.

Nonsense! Older people will have GREAT health care!

If they happen to be members of Congress.

A lot of people who voted for Trump are on disability of one kind or another.
Or they're already collecting Medicare, same thing.

Why would Trump and his buddies think this is going to fly?
It's further proof that they're absolutely nuts.

Politicus (PoliticusUSA) is fairly left-leaning and opinionated, but they do have good information sometimes.
The rules of this little News group state that the headline is to be quoted verbatim.
The actual content of the story, when you drain off the emotional slant, is still interesting content;
It isn't sensational as the headline suggests, but it's interesting, and a story probably not available elsewhere.

When US citizens finally get the complete picture of what they intend to do to destroy the middle class, there will be hell to pay.

He may have seemed "sure of himself" and "the plan" but he can't afford to let anyone see the truth he is trying so hard to conceal, and he blew it, clearly, in the eyes of anyone capable of paying attention throughout the clip.

10. Genetic Defect
Fri Mar 10, 2017, 10:06 PM
Mar 2017

I'm going to be really frank, of course. I listened to the brief clip. Like Trump, the congressman has a genetic defect (we study this in labs as well as with functional MRI), of a not uncommon type, that makes it IMPOSSIBLE for him to use logical tools and reason optimally like other individuals in the community, not all Einsteins of course when I refer to "others" in the community. Humanity really faces a crossroads due to the sheer prevalence of moronism and mental incapacity (and this PARTICULAR genetic defect) in a non negligible share of the population.

With regard to the healthcare issue, that is the proposed modifications to the ACA, the incontrovertible reality is that if the changes are enacted the U.S. government will be directly complicit in causing the early deaths of uncounted tens of thousands of individuals, a death toll that FAR EXCEEDS anything that overseas terrorists, even were they able to get here, could accomplish. That means that, in ACTUAL FACT, the U.S. government has become more deadly to the local population and a much greater risk than the "problem" of terrorism. Based on the bald DATA, the foregoing is an incontrovertible fact.

If you're an academic, or have that capacity of mind, you will have no doubt already figured out that this country has now literally become a lost cause. Income inequality, and concentration of ownership of stocks of wealth, has proceeded beyond all REASON now. What is transpiring now is appalling beyond even the worst estimates of the most die hard pessimists and indeed although neither I, nor anyone, can legally recommend it, or participate in it, it is crystal clear that only massive, massive street action and indeed widespread rioting is going to get this madness stopped, if stopping the DECAY is even possible at this stage. Such is the path that ALL past historical "conjunctures" have taken.

Unbelievable. Nobody can believe what is transpiring and indeed even I do not "believe it" but it is happening. The only glimmer of hope is maybe people will wake up "soon". But, how "soon"? Will it be "soon enough"?

Fri Mar 10, 2017, 11:54 PM
Mar 2017

I am disabled and I have been fighting for health care and disability rights from day one. It doesn't take a genius to see what's happening here. Take the poorest members of the population, the ones in the most dire need of medical care, and who as a group are least able to speak out for themselves. Deprive them all of medical care and stand back and see what happens. They die like flies. And keep in mind that Ben Carson has already started cutting the budget for HUD, so low income people who depend on housing assistance (a large subset of the first group) will be thrown out on the streets where they, too will often perish. And 3 guesses as to what will happen to SNAP (food stamps) when the republicans get through with the Agriculture Bill when it comes up for funding. Hitler would have been green with envy.

As a disabled American who is 65 years-old, I know my cohort will be first up on the chopping block. I've been considering this possibility, and if it indeed happens, I'm not going to die curled up in some little ball in a hidden corner. I'm going to die in the most public manner possible and in a way that will cause the greatest possible inconvenience for my executioners. If I were A buddhist monk during the Vietnam war, I'd set myself on fire on the steps of the capitol at Washington DC. Alas, I lack the courage to set myself on flame. But there are other dramatic things that a person who is going to die anyhow can do and without harming anyone else in the process.

I know I must sound very extreme or even like some sort of fanatic when I'm actually not that way at all. Before I became disabled, I was a librarian and a teacher. I'd just prefer to go down fighting if that's what it actually comes to.

because -- and I know this will come as a surprise to many Republicans -- men are responsible for 100% of pregnancies. So what they do initiates the need for pre natal care.

And since not all women get pregnant, or they eventually age out of that potential (I have), they shouldn't have to, as a group, pay for pre-natal care.

And don't try to argue back that not all men are responsible for pregnancies. I know that. But unless you've had a vasectomy, you're a potential pregnancy creator.

Thousand tax breaks that was used to help people who couldn't afford insurance. Why do corps have such greedy, grubby, money grabbing attitudes. If you want to live in the past, there used to be a pride in civic responsibility towards the country and the workers that gave the wealthy the opportunity to be free to innovate, do business and make money. Now they want more and more and screw the poor. Still feels like French Revolution time to me. Especially against the extractors who rape the resources of our country and don't want to pay for them. More money that could be spread around instead of giving it all to the very richest. Jesus wept.

He never admitted overtly that people would be screwed; he just bs'd answers one after another. And then, rather than having a wrap-up comment on that topic, the interviewer jumped to another topic...that is the problem with these sound-bite interviews of "complicated" topics.

I have (all things being ideal) a lot of years still ahead of me, but a physical disability unlikely to be cured in my lifetime.

Currently, with the few treatment options having failed, I am receiving maintenance-style pain management at the University of Miami to at least give me some quality of life. It doesn't stop all of the pain, but it at least keeps me sane. Medicaid is a pain to work with, particularly since Florida went to the MMA insurance plans. However, to its credit, it does pay for the University visit, my GP, and a sum of money I could never sustain for my medications.

If they just decide to nuke Medicaid two years from now, what do all of us on that or one of the MMA plans do? That's a LOT of people. It's the one reason I have hope that this attempt will fail, the sheer number of people who would be left stranded and dying. I'd go into life threatening withdrawal if I were simply taken off of the five medications I'm on, and if I didn't die that way, I'd surely die another due to suffering the pain I did before I found the right diagnosis and treatment.

He got the job because the repugs gerrymandered the district out from under Chet Edwards, a democrat and good guy, after they could not defeat him otherwise. This guy is a slimy pos who talks out of his ass as you can see in this clip. He is a teabagger who hates government but seems to love his government job. Ted Cruz and this guy...good god I have got to get out of this state. He talks about the lack of choice in most counties in Texas, but does not say it is because the repugs have worked very hard to make the ACA fail in this state. One of the two nonprofit hospitals in my city was bought by a larger hospital/insurance company that was then bought by a larger hospital chain. The lack of choice here is intentional and this shithead knows it.

I've seen this again and again and again. Keep asking them questions. Bear down and ask the question again if the first answer is for shit. Especially if it's an answer that exposes the bullshitter as having only latched onto the talking points and don't know anything beyond that. They've essentially just read the headline and haven't bothered with the entire write-thru.

Besides, the talking points are crafted to be catchy and quick - but you can blow a big hole in them by nailing them on that meaningless sloganeering. I'd venture to day they grab the slogan with very little depth of understanding or ability to back it up with real, objective facts (not the "alternative" kind).
