Lawmakers vote Thursday on deal to repeal HB2
Source: Charlotte Observer
North Carolina lawmakers could repeal House Bill 2 on Thursday under a deal struck late Wednesday night by Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper and Republican legislative leaders.
Senate leader Phil Berger announced the deal shortly after 10:30 p.m. The announcement capped days of marathon, often contentious negotiations and closed-door meetings.
Berger and House Speaker Tim Moore took no questions. Details of the deal had not been released by 11 p.m.
I support the House Bill 2 repeal compromise that will be introduced tomorrow, Cooper said in a statement. Its not a perfect deal, but it repeals House Bill 2 and begins to repair our reputation.

(991 posts)It eliminated discrimination laws for women and blacks, it took away worker's rights, it took away LGBT protections that had been enacted in some cities (Charlotte for eg.), it took away the right of municipalities to enact minimum wage laws, and it overturned and eliminated all existing local ordinances and any ability to enact family leave policies, child welfare protections, limits on the number of consecutive hours an employee may be required to work without a break or health insurance standards for any contractors in their community....and the bathroom thing.
It was a Republican's wet dream of a law! The people of NC voted out a one-term Republican Governor because of this law. Unfortunately, gerrymandering is so severe that we haven't turned the legislature--but just wait 'til 2018!

Why, it almost sounds like they reached a "compromise" Republicans & conservative Christians (but I repeat myself) can live with but will still target trans people, all so they can make that NCAA deadline tomorrow.
NCAA, better watch out - look what happened to Charleston*
(* The state told Charleston, "repeal your anti-discrimination ordinance & we'll repeal HB2. The city did so. State Republicans said, "can't believe you fell for that"

Looks like they aren't actually repealing it; they are replacing it with something functionally identical, hoping to fool the NCAA.
