Trumps Unreleased Taxes Threaten Yet Another Campaign Promise
Source: NY Times
WASHINGTON — President Trump’s promise to enact a sweeping overhaul of the tax code is in serious jeopardy nearly 100 days into his tenure, and his refusal to release his own tax returns is emerging as a central hurdle to another faltering campaign promise. As procrastinators rushed to file their tax returns by Tuesday, the White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, emphasized again on Monday that Mr. Trump had no intention of making his public. Democrats have seized on that decision, uniting around a pledge not to cooperate on any rewriting of the tax code unless they know specifically how that revision would benefit the billionaire president and his family. And a growing roster of more than a dozen Republican lawmakers now say Mr. Trump should release them. “If he doesn’t release his returns, it is going to make it much more difficult to get tax reform done,” said Senator Chuck Schumer, the Democratic leader, pointing out that the president has significant conflicts of interest on issues such as taxation of the real estate industry and elimination of the estate tax. “It’s in his own self-interest.” Read more: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/17/us/politics/tax-code-overhaul-trump.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=first-column-region®ion=top-news&WT.nav=top-news&_r=0 This is a great idea-- block tax reform as much as possible, until Trump releases his taxes.

1. Here's a line Dems can get behind and the public will support them.
"...uniting around a pledge not to cooperate on any rewriting of the tax code unless they know specifically how that revision would benefit the billionaire president and his family."

2. Oh my god!
He acts as if we are asking for his birth certificate or something!
![]() I'll send him my college transcripts, B.C. and Consulate papers if he releases his taxes. Easy peasy piece of cake upside down with a cherry on top. And whipped cream. |

3. "more than a dozen Republican lawmakers"
You need more than "a dozen" to speak out. You need a couple hundred. There are 52 GOP members in the Senate and 238 (not counting the vacancies) GOP members in the House, but we know they are a bunch of cowards.

4. Trump's also still LYING in saying he "can't" when it's he WON'T...
He's still saying that he can't because of the IRS auditing him and that's been shown to be a LIE.
The IRS released a statement early last year saying taxes could be by the person being audited and in October '16 Warren Buffett called him on it by sharing his even though he too was being audited by the IRS. This was reported on by numerous news sources like the NYTs: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/11/business/buffett-calls-trumps-bluff-and-releases-his-tax-return.html The BIG question is WHY? Why lie and deal with increasing demands to see them if releasing them would stop it? Why lie if you have zero to hide? Even releasing the one(s) not actively under audit might make more people happier. IMO Americans have the right to expect and require transparency from our candidates (and our government too unless, of course, our national security would truly be compromised.) |

6. National security issue
That's the perfect argument. Republicans will be forced to argue against national security.

7. Yes, in Trump's case not releasing could compromise it...
Although I'm going to guess it won't be as blatant as listing payments from or to Russia on his taxes. Isn't selling ones soul normally done under the 'table'?

8. We all know that Trump cannot release his taxes because they would be picked
apart and shown to be fraudulent as well as the glaring fact that they would probably counter everything he has said about his wealth. They would have Russian money all over them as well as income from several undesirables etc.
Show us your birth taxes certificate!!! The irony is delicious! We don't really have to see them to make use of them. Just start spreading rumors about them since he cannot ever show them. "Trump's taxes revealed he foreclosed on an orphanage!" "Trump's taxes show he deducted for providing support for Vladimir Putin for over 1/2 of the year!" "Trump made $50,000,000 profit from his campaign!" "Trump lost money every year for the last 30 years and still in business!" You get the idea. |

15. Trump ran a preschooler prostitute ring. Disgusting.
Those taxes will either prove that or totally dismiss it as a scurrilous rumor that people are saying.

How else are they going to make the cuts "pay for themselves?"
