Pope Francis gives a surprise TED Talk, calls for a revolution of tenderness
Source: MSN/Washington Post
VANCOUVER Pope Francis used a world forum dedicated to promoting cutting-edge ideas to spread his own revolutionary message: We all need each other.
When there is an us, there begins a revolution, the worlds most powerful religious leader told the room of scientists, academics, tech innovators, investors and cultural elites in a surprise videotaped message at the international TED conference Tuesday evening.
Keeping with the intent of the week-long conference to share strategies to make the world better, Franciss contribution to that conversation was to urge the people gathered here to use their influence and power to care for others.
How wonderful would it be if the growth of scientific and technological innovation would come along with more equality and social inclusion, he said to applause. How wonderful would it be, while we discover faraway planets, to rediscover the needs of the brothers and sisters orbiting around us.

(14,173 posts)But isn't there also a large number of that religious right made up of Catholics? And don't Catholics believe that the Pope is only second to God Himself? And his edicts are to be followed without question? Why are these christian Republicans not being taken to task about their 'blasphemous' rejection of the Pope and God? They are always spouting off about the War on Christianity, but then they themselves engage in a type of war against their own religion. Just another baffling hypocrisy from the GOP

Which is why this is a problem. Yes, we like his positon on income inequality. We like his PR position on the environment, even though he's as wasteful as any other head of state you can imagine, when it comes to energy consumption, etc.
But we don't like his position on LGBT issues, do we? Recall Prop8 in California. Mormons led the charge, but the Catholics were #2 in donations and support. They worked together on it. And that's all you need to explain what happened in California, of all places, a solidly blue state otherwise, because there's another shade of blue on this map, that matters:
