White House aims for Thursday signing of religious liberty executive order

By Timothy Alberta and Shane Goldmacher 05/02/17 02:50 PM EDT

President Donald Trump has invited conservative leaders to the White House on Thursday for what they expect will be the ceremonial signing of a long-awaited - and highly controversial - executive order on religious liberty, according to multiple people familiar with the situation.

Two senior administration officials confirmed the plan, though one cautioned that it hasnt yet been finalized, and noted that lawyers are currently reviewing and fine-tuning the draft language. Thursday is the National Day of Prayer, and the White House was already planning to celebrate the occasion with faith leaders.

The signing would represent a major triumph for Vice President Mike Pence - whose push for religious-freedom legislation backfired mightily when he served as governor of Indiana - and his allies in the conservative movement.

The original draft order, which would have established broad exemptions for people and groups to claim religious objections under virtually any circumstance, was leaked to The Nation (1) on Feb. 1the handiwork, many conservatives believed, of Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, who have sought to project themselves as friendly to the LGBT community. Liberals blasted the draft order as government-licensed discrimination, and the White House distanced itself from the leaked document in a public statement.

Certainly unconstitutional, but it could get very interesting seeing who wants to be in the room during the signing

Pence's worldview is even worse than Trump's. Let's get it out in the open.

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

And if they can't answer that question, then the next question that should be asked:

What "oath" did you swear to uphold and defend in the Constitution there zippy?

"Trump version ? Or the Sexual Predators versions?

Hey, Sexual predator, I am exercising my right to the First Amendment about you because of this shit:

7. More from that article

Pence and a small team of conservative allies quickly began working behind the scenes to revise the language, and in recent weeks have ratcheted up the pressure on Trump to sign it. The new draft is being tightly held, but one influential conservative who saw the text said it hasn’t been dialed back much—if at all—since the February leak. “The language is very, very strong,” the source said.

Ugh, does not sound good. It will be challenged, but who will be on the Court at that point?

Also from the article, Pence is the keynote speaker at an anti-abortion group's gala tomorrow... let's hope someone leaks his speech right away!

Religion is like a penis.
It's nice if you have one.
It's nice to be proud of it.
But you don't need to go waving it around in public,
and no one wants you shoving it down other people's throats.

Shoving religious beliefs down other people's throats is exactly what this "executive" order would allow.

Religious freedom? ...

Cool: I must / cannot do it because of my religious beliefs.
..... I decide for myself.

Cool?: You must / cannot do it because of my religious beliefs.

Uncool?: I must / cannot do it because of your religious beliefs.

...that if I went to somewhere like NYC where there are enough people who are not Christian to keep my doors open, opened a business of some sort, and posted a sign on the door "My Religion Forbids Me To Serve Christians," I would still be hauled up on religious discrimination charges and sued pantsless.

OTOH, if under this EO I were to pull out a Deuteronomy 23.2 (no miscenegation), a Nehemiah 13.3 (no furriners), a Leviticus 18.22 (no gays), a Hebrews 13.4 (no sex before marriage), or an Ezra 10.10 (no marrying foreigners - you know, like the orange wrecking ball likes to do) and claim my Christian Faith forbids me from dealing with anyone but White Married Couples With Children Like God Intended, that would be perfectly fine.

I hope you folks realize just how many decades it's going to take to unfuck this country just from the three months that terrorist has already been in office...and the bastard hasn't even started guillotining liberals yet!
