California farmers peeved at Trump, claim they were 'pawn' in US-Argentine trade deal

Source: CNBC

Farmers worry allowing lemons into U.S. will raise citrus disease risk
Citrus industry charges Trump administration shut them out of process

California citrus farmers on Tuesday blasted the Trump administration for lifting a 16-year import ban on fresh lemons from a key growing region of Argentina.

At the same time, the industry charged the action was a "double standard" by an "America First" president who touts jobs and one that could end up hurting American family farmers.

"The administration blindsided us," said Joel Nelsen, a farmer and president of the California Citrus Mutual, a citrus producers trade group.

The U.S. industry claims bringing in the fruit will bring added risk of citrus diseases and pests that could jeopardize the domestic crop. Clearly, the issue also irritates domestic growers because Argentina produces the world's largest crop and is a global competitor in selling to lucractive markets such as Asia.

10. Yup, all the duped farmers in 'BLUE' states are in for a surprise. He'll screw them any way he can.

On the West Coast, there's what's called the 'Cascade Curtain'. Eastern WA, E. Oregon and the farming Valleys of CA. vote RePub. The heavily populated urban areas west of the Cascade Mts. on the Coast, deliver the entire state's electoral votes to the Democrats.
That's enough to earn Dump's revenge. If he can inflict some hurt to a BLUE state, he will. He admits he lives for paybacks X10, no matter how long it takes. Mean and vindictive, this one.

WTF did they think would happen to their industry? Soon as drumf announced the wall and immigration policies PRE-election it should been a fucking red flag (or 2, or 3...).

I can't tell you how many "Farmers for Trump" banners I saw in the CA Central Valley area last year (Nunes' district, BTW). Which is not the area mentioned in the link, I know, but shit ALL the farmers shoulda known better. All those land/farm owners in the Valley better get their kids and their neighbors' kids ready to start picking cuz I don't foresee many of their previous years' pickers coming back anytime soon.

And did/do they think he cares about any new import law that will effect California??

These lemon farmers obviously did not think things through. Otherwise, they would not be blindsided.

and the schills hosting talk shows do everything to obfuscate reality and the result is that they make it sound like Repubs are the ones doing all the good and Dems are doing all the bad -- telling lies about immigration policy, environmental, economic, the whole gamut-- I get a headache after 5 min. of listening to their completely twisted logic -- but then there is nothing else on the radio when driving along the 101 or the 5 freeway -- either stay awake and be mad with the radio, or turn it off and drive in silence in the darkness.

They desperately need public radio and balanced media there.

I don't know how the farmers can get good info. unless they work hard to find it

Just like so many others who will be "blindsighted", when they find out they were conned. Those jobs are not coming back, as Trump promised. It was sickening to see people fall for it.

The Dumps had been working on a Dump Tower deal in Buenos Aires and getting nowhere until lo and behold he steals the election, and Argentina suddenly starts talking about giving it the OK. By the end of November Pres-Elect Donny talks with Argentina’s President, with Ivanka in tow, but they say they “never” discussed the deal (wink wink).

And now a reversal to allow Argentina’s lemons to be imported, hmmmm….bet that lease has been suddenly expedited for a June opening.

These dumbfucks who voted for MAGA (read "losers&quot are finding out the hard way that the Dump family business comes before the USA; sad.

It was a temporary concern that turned trade protectionist for GOP voters, under Bush. Given California's run-off system, anti gerrymandering laws, 45 is just acknowledging that California is beyond there reach both at Federal and State levels....so why cater to the GOP there?
