Trump to visit the Vatican on first foreign trip as president

President Donald Trump will visit Israel, the Vatican and Saudi Arabia later this month on his first foreign trip as president, according to two White House officials.
Trumps tour will conclude with his stops at a NATO meeting in Brussels on May 25 and at the G7 summit in Sicily the following day. The first foreign visit is typically a milestone for a new president. The stakes are high for White House staff, who are seeking to firm up alliances overseas.
At a recent press conference with the Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni, Trump mentioned his interest in meeting with the Pope.
Last week, Israeli officials confirmed that they've been in talks with the White House about arranging a visit to Jerusalem.

(59,495 posts)The US usually has two different ambassadors to Italy and the Vatican respectively. I hope that the wonderful Pope Francis does meet with him AND give a public statement consistent with the values he has always had -- which are NOT those of Trump.

(23,059 posts)Did the queen show some balls and say no to the golden coach ride he wants from the airport? I really hope that is what happened, although I haven't seen anything since the much publicized original stupid request.
