Sources indicate Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy will retire this summer

Source: Associated Press

Thursday, May 4, 2017

As one justice settles into his new job at the Supreme Court, is another about to leave?

Eighty-year-old Justice Anthony Kennedy is so far refusing to comment on speculation that he may soon retire after 29 years on the court.

But that hasn’t stopped President Donald Trump and, obliquely, the Republican senator in charge of high court confirmation hearings from weighing in on the prospect that Kennedy could step down as soon as this spring or summer. If not this year, several former law clerks said they would not be surprised to see the justice retire in 2018.

“I’ve heard the same rumors that a lot of people have heard. And I have a lot of respect for that gentleman, a lot,” Trump told The Washington Times in an interview published Sunday.

Roberts will now be the swing vote. The replacement will probably be 30-35 and to the right of Atilla the Hun.

I know some of us were but by and large democaratic party voters sat on their hands and were very ho-hum about the thefot of a USSC Judge. That is what really bothers me. This is the sort of thing that people protest in mass for in other countries. This was an outright theft. We basically said "when Hillary wins we will right this wrong" and we all know hos that went.

Sorry I am not trying to paint anyone as being lazy here because I don't believe that to be the case but it just burns my ass that we absolutely let them get away with this. We should have been so mad that we should have scared the shit out of republicans for not even giving Garland a hearing.

This is the same story that we've heard for months. He's old enough to want to retire... and wants to do it with a Republican Senate/White House... but there's no telling whether that's this year or next.

The fact that Gorsuch was a former clerk of his may cause him to delay for a year so that they can work together... but that's just speculation.

Hate to say it, but I have thought for a few years that Ginsberg should retire, so Obama could appoint a replacement.

So here we are. One or maybe two are going to retire.

She had a "normal" election won. But there was nothing at all "normal" about last years GE.

Between FakiLeaks, a mostly corporate media who gave $2 BILLION in free air-time to tRumputin, racism, sexism, misogyny, Mildly Nauseous Comey, the ruskies who are STILL meddling per Clint Watts, and thuglican Voter suppression/voter-disenfranchisement, voter-crosschecking, purging Dems off of voter rolls on steroids, IMHO, NO Dem had any chance of winning the 2016 GE.

tRumputin, his puppet master, and the GOP pulled off the perfect coup.

HOW we get and keep the ruskies out of our 2018 and 2020 elections, especially under a putin-loving DOJ with beauguard co-signing and riding shot gun for tRumputin is anybody's guess.

The last time the Repubs took a break, they did not officially recess because of that, but Obama wasn't goin to do it anyway. He had 8 months. Maybe someone can explain to me why, as I don't get it. To preserve his legacy without an ending contact, is not a a good reason.

She and her family are rich and non-minority, and can afford the best of health care etc. I suppose. She really doesn't CARE one bit, because they have enough money to ride the wave of any extremely right Supreme court ruling, while some of us could be completely wiped out.
