Paul Ryan Was Right: This Was A Defining Moment For The Republican Party

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by hrmjustin (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: Huffington Post

It chose tax cuts for millionaires over insurance for millions.

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) reportedly delivered a message to his colleagues earlier this week, seeking their support for the American Health Care Act: “This is who we are. This will define us.”

It was one of the more accurate things he’s said in a long time.

The AHCA would expose many millions of Americans, including some of society’s most vulnerable members, to the possibility of crippling medical expenses ― forcing them to choose between financial hardship, medical hardship or both.

At the same time, it would lower taxes on corporations and wealthy Americans, to the tune of $594 billion over 10 years.

They will never live this down. As Nancy Pelosi said, "I guess their desire to give a tax break to the rich just trumped everything"

I am simply outraged by their callous disregard for fellow Americans and their obvious need for more, more, more money by committing what will be mass murder if the senate doesn't stop this.

The big driving GOP donors are billionaires - the Koches, the Mercers, the Waltons. Scaife, Anschutz, Olin.

Wall St. has some multi-billionaires, and Wall St. has a lot of more-money-in-my-pocket Republicans. But Wall St. has some Democrats too.

The real corrupting force in the GOP is the mega-donors.

I just cannot fathom how people who were purportedly sent to Congress to represent the best interests of their constituents could instead, and gleefully, and publicly, give them a big F U instead.

And I really don't get why so many of their constituents don't seem to mind. But that's a separate issue. It just seems like political malpractice for a representative to actively and deliberately harm the people in his or her district.

May 2017

IF WE ALLOW IT.

If we're lazy, apathetic, unmotivated, snoozing, not vigilant, not paying attention, not giving a damn, giving up.

The ONLY way to make sure they never live this down is to MAKE THEM never live this down. There MUST be consequences for this.

And guys, seriously, you - and I - HAVE TO, HAVE TO, HAVE TO go out and vote in the midterms. Otherwise, we hand them yet another victory and leave them in place to do their damnedest and dirtiest and most dastardly - for ANOTHER two years, and then go into the Presidential election cycle with the wind at their backs.

The proof will be IF WE get to work and MAKE SURE they have a whole series of bad days.

I'd make only one change/addition. We not only have to GO out and vote in the midterms, we have to GET out the vote. That means work; it means canvassing, using social media, talking to friends, neighbors, family and making SURE they know the issues and that it's Democrats, not Republicans, who are on their side. You're right; we can't afford apathy. This is an emergency and we have to fight for our country.

It's come to this. It's not only sticking it to the Republicans, it's giving all our energy to save the country we love.
