Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuels response to the Trump administration pulling down its website detailing information about climate change: putting up his own.
The new section of the City of Chicagos website, launched this weekend, pulls data from the archived Environmental Protection Agency page, noting, while this information may not be readily available on the agencys webpage right now, here in Chicago we know climate change is real and we will continue to take action to fight it. Emanuel is promising to build the site out more in the coming weeks, using city resources.
The Trump administration can attempt to erase decades of work from scientists and federal employees on the reality of climate change, but burying your head in the sand doesnt erase the problem, Emanuel said.
Through both Republican and Democratic administrations in the past two decades, the EPA accepted and promoted climate change data. That changed under President Donald Trump, whos expressed doubts about the science and already eliminated regulations put in place by President Barack Obama, and EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt, who has repeatedly questioned global warming and fought environmental protections from the government he argues unfairly target businesses.

(30,738 posts)Chicago politics are brutal. Rahm does what he has to do.
DU loves to gripe about how Democrats have no spine. Rahm has a spine. He is ruthless. We need a lot more ruthless in our party.
If we had ten more Rahms in every state, the republican scum would not have so much power.

(70,099 posts)the guy has to deal w everything for preschools to mobsters.
he def has a spine. and yeah, everyone says they want a spine, but show one and see what happens. i still piss people off by saying that the day daley tore up the runways at meigs was one of my favorite days in chicago.
he is a lot smarter than people give him credit for, too.

(30,738 posts)I told my husband that after he did that, he was not "just Ritchie" any more. He was the real Mayor Daley, like his father.
I remember people saying things about Mayor Daley, and then adding that "Oh, I wasn't talking about Ritchie. I meant the REAL Mayor Daley."
Remember too, when Kerry ran for President, Rove stayed out of here. He knew he couldn't get far with his dirty tricks in Illinois. We are dirtier. ROFL.

(70,099 posts)i like dan biss, but dont know if he has the personality. i also think the transaction tax is one of those appealing simple ideas that could have some serious unintended consequences.
pritzker and kennedy, i think, are gonna find voters are not big on replacing one rich guy w another rich guy. i think this sticks to kennedy less so.

(30,738 posts)I know many of the activists in this district, and in the 17th. People here like Kennedy. I am willing to put in the time for his campaign.
Remember, any candidate has to win the trust of the downstate Democrats. It isn't enough any more for us simply to follow the lead of Chicago.
DuPage County has changed surprisingly. They went big for Hillary, and replaced a lot of local people with Democrats. I will have to ask my son what people are saying there. The demographic shift there, and in Will County will have to be considered. How will Hispanics feel about Pritzker and Kennedy?
It's nice to see people out here looking favorably at Kennedy, and not screaming "dynasty." (fools)
Pritzker could be more of a problem for the rest of the state. People will see him as nothing more than another rich guy. Some of the activists here feel that way already.
It is early. Rainer is done. He is trying to buy the office again, but everyone hates him.
Send Rauner to jail. We send most of our governors there anyway.

(30,738 posts)Madigan is the only thing standing between Rauner and our state becoming the equivalent of a third world country.
All Democrats should have Madigan's discipline.
DU gripes about Democrats having no spine. Madigan does. Rahm does. I like my Illinois Democrats.
it sucks to be a dem.
