Sen. Hatch: Public Will 'Take Every Dime They Can' From Government

Source: Talking Points Memo

By ESME CRIBB Published MAY 9, 2017 5:08 PM

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) on Tuesday said the public will “take every dime they can” from government programs like health care.

Asked by a reporter how public perception of the Republican bill to repeal and replace Obamacare is affecting the Senate’s deliberations, Hatch said “the public wants every dime they can be given.”

“Let’s face it, once you get them on the dole, they’ll take every dime they can,” Hatch said, as quoted by CNN. “We’ve got to find some way of getting things under control or this country and your future is going to be gone.”

As he left a meeting on Tuesday where Republican lawmakers began drafting their own legislation, Hatch made similar remarks signaling that the Senate may pursue deep cuts to Medicaid.

People like Donald Trump, who claimed he was "smart" for taking millions of dollars worth of loopholes to avoid paying taxes to the government.

Or people like federal contractors, who bilk the government all the time; or real-estate developers, who get special tax incentives, which they then sell to banks for cash.

Is that the public he's talking about?

Yes, we want it back to fund things we consider important, and preserving the life and health of ourselves is the first priority.

You're like the bank manager who walks into the safe deposit box vault and takes ownership of the contents of the drawers. It's not yours. You're an employee, not the owner.

From Republican "tax and spend" to Progressive "tax and invest." For starters, we the people ARE the gov. Which means that in a democracy, we the people, through our representatives, decide how much to tax, who to tax, and where to invest those taxes for the commonwealth and security of all. Progressives are no longer willing to let millionaires and corporations run our government for their profit, while they offlay the expense of business onto taxpayers.

Our tax dollars are investments in infrastructure, education, research & development that benefit businesses, clean and safe food and drugs, hospitals and healthcare, clean air and water, retirement with dignity, public parks, transportation on roads, rails, and air, security by police and military, justice through our courts, affordable housing, free and fair elections, and so much more.

And I would add that if Hatch dislikes spending public money so much, he can always refuse to cash his paycheck that is funded with tax payer dollars.

really folks, it's time we reclaimed the discussion from "tax and spend" to "taxes invested in our and our children's lives and future.

He's what I've heard referred to as a "net tax receiver", i.e., gets more in tax payer dollars (salary, perks) than he pays in taxes. IOW, he's a welfare king.

Does Hatch realize the LDS' run the largest non-governmental welfare organization in the country?

You do realize, don't you, that the money we 'take' from OUR government, that is supposedly OF, BY and FOR us, the people, is funded by OUR taxes that we pay in, don't you?

Republicans in my state make this fundamental and rather short sighted mistake all the time.

They say, "We don't want no Fed'ral Gummint dollars, thank you very much," and decline things like aid to new homebuyers, etc. Then they grin and high five each other about what good conservatives they all are.

But, you know, WE paid that money into the Federal Government through our US Income Tax, and anytime you can get that money flowing back into your state for stuff like infrastructure improvements, why in the hell wouldn't you?

Seriously.

You know, every time the government offers something beneficial, that would actually help Americans in some way, there will always be a Republican to come along and try to quash it on the basis that using our tax money for stuff that helps us 'creates dependency.'

Can anyone say...BULL...SHIT?

If white conservative pukes get gubmint money, in the form of oh say crop support or fossil fuel subsidies, it's just going to the right hands.

If a middle class, working class, or poor person gets government assistance including for education, that's welfare.

Money we've paid into Social Security and Medicare is the rightful property of Wall Street.

Or at least that appears to be the way Hatch thinks.
