Comey was 'caught flat-footed' and learned of firing from TV while talking to FBI agents in L.A.
Source: Los Angeles Times
James B. Comey, who was ousted today as FBI director by President Trump, learned about his firing from a TV news report while speaking with FBI agents in Los Angeles, according to an FBI source.
"He was caught flat-footed," said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Comey was surprised by the news but kept talking to the agents, the source said. Another source said that once the news flashed on the screen, Comey was ushered off into another room to meet with aides.
Comey was set to speak Tuesday night at an FBI recruiting event in Hollywood. But the source said that in the wake of his firing, Comey will not go forward with the program. TV coverage showed Comey boarding a jet at Los Angeles International Airport. The jet took off about 6 p.m. and was headed for Washington D.C., according to the planes flight plan.

Not enough guts to say "You are fired" to his face, eh?
But, of course, there is nothing nice or honorable about this gang, regardless of what we think of Comey.

Almost a year of wanting him fired - by anybody! And now we got it!
It is a shock! A wonderful, pleasurable shock!
'Saturday Night Massacre'? You all DO remember how that turned out?
In this case, a win/win?

If this prick wasn't a partisan Republican hack, I've never seen one!
Would we have Madame President if America had known Trump was under FBI investigation for the last year?
"Huma got emails!" or "Trump working with Russia to destroy American democracy!"
We didn't get that conversation, did we?

This is our time for celebration - this administration is short one more partisan hack!

Comey was just nailed for lying under oath about Huma emails!
What did he say about Trump? Nothing!

(13,485 posts)chaos is the outcome if put in Trump's context. Comey could have been taken out by other means than opening a hole that can crash the whole damn system. Could Trump appoint anyone worse? Hell yeah. If Trump has an agenda he could do major damage.

(37,648 posts)As usual, he tries to crush people and ruin careers. Trump has no decency. Horrible way to fire someone.
Yet, the announcement for Flynn is that he resigned (when we know he was fired), and was told personally by Trump. Flynn...the criminal on Russian payroll.

Notice in the letter how passive Trump's action is: "I have accepted their (Sessions and Rosenstein's) recommendation and you are hereby terminated...".
What a coward.

(5,801 posts)that dump had his bodyguard hand-carry the firing letter over to the FBI, which showed how "deeply personal" this matter was to the con. Sounds like a mob technique to inflict maximum revenge on the target. Of course we all know dump is just a NY thug.

(15,278 posts)Can't recall her name, but she made an interesting comment that giving no notice/warning of firing did not allow Comey time to have the agents working the case ensure nothing was lost. Just as Obama's administration sent copies/lists of documents to the Senate/House, presumably to the Dems, so that information wouldn't be lost or if it was, someone would know it. The FBI had no chance to do the same.
