NC asks for $900M in flood relief, feds give $6.1M, Cooper says
Source: WRAL
RALEIGH, N.C. North Carolina asked the federal government for $900 million to help relieve parts of the state ravaged by Hurricane Matthew flood waters, but the government only offered $6.1 million, Gov. Roy Cooper said in a news conference on Wednesday.
The $6 million of relief money is less than 1 percent of what the state asked for.
Families across Eastern North Carolina need help to rebuild and recover, and it is an incredible failure by the Trump administration and Congressional leaders to turn their backs, Cooper said in the statement.
In a letter to Congress, Cooper asked for the money to help families rebuild homes, repair businesses and recover from the flooding that inundated North Carolina after the October hurricane.

Stop waiting for Trumpers to admit they have been fooled.
Stop waiting for Trumpers to regret voting for him.
Stop having any sorts of empathy for them. If the guy THEY elected makes THEM suffer, THEY deserve it. "Party of Personal Responsibility" and all...

Trump is such a nasty asshole he would punish innocent people for electing a Democratic governor. Assuming he's still in office in September, the proof of the pudding will be how Trump responds when a state that elects a lot of Republicans...like, say, Idaho or Kansas...requests disaster relief funds.

Less than 1%. Hurricane Matthew absolutely devastated so many areas of Eastern NC, and the SOBs in Washington can't even see fit to use some of that $182 BILLION so-called surplus - a surplus garnered on the backs of so many desperate people not just here, but all over the United States.
Just have to wonder which cronies' pockets will be enriched at such a terrible human cost.

(5,268 posts)Why aren't they doing more to lobby for need for a lot more aid, if only to resore destroyed infrastructure. I have to wonder if it is coincidental that some of the hardest hit towns were predominantly black communities who suffered floodwaters for weeks with no relief.

(7,581 posts)Hey, red staters, this is your future if you keep voting for Republicans. You know why?? Blue states are going to get smart, and agree to very low federal taxes, and raise our state taxes. We will keep our own money instead of sending it to red states. Red states will look like Ethiopia in five years. Sad.
