President Donald Trump is considering Mike Rogers, a former Republican congressman and FBI agent from Michigan, among candidates to replace James Comey as FBI director, a White House official said.
Rogers, 53, a former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, retired from Congress in 2015 after seven terms to pursue a career in talk radio. He advised the Trump presidential transition team on national security issues but was asked to leave at about the same time New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was removed as head of the transition.
Trump fired Comey on Tuesday after what White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders described as months of rising frustration with the FBI director, dating back to Trumps election. Comey was leading the FBI investigation of potential collusion between Trump campaign officials and Russian government officials who sought to manipulate the outcome of the U.S. presidential election. Comey also publicly dismissed Trumps claim that former President Barack Obama spied on him.
The firing has plunged the Trump White House into another political crisis, as Democrats have roundly castigated the decision and some Republicans have expressed unease.

He looks like an ambitious Republican dirtbag who has tried to make a splash attacking a popular President, Barack Obama. Just the kind of guy something like Trump might expect to look out for his interests.

(128,863 posts)and did the same for certain legislation as well. Tom Coburn (now former Senator) was the master at it. I watched that fucker hold up final appropriations funding for the Pigford II case (Black Farmers) for 6 months, with his "hold" and objections, that kept the funding from an unanimous consent (the UDSA approved, the courts approved, and legislation had been approved and just needed the separate funding piece).
Such use requires cloture votes to break the hold (which as noted in post #8, can gum up the works by forcing them to go through the regular process, which in the Senate, is extended). I just never understood why our side hasn't started using these tactics. Maybe because we have been losing the more senior members who were aware of all the rules and the rule book (with past precedents).

(16 posts)Government has been fucking (pardon my language) us over for years. Corruption in the Justice Department, corruption in Congress and not listening to Constituents unless you have a large petition campaign.
There are good laws and there are flawed laws. There are good Congress people and bad Congress people.
I hope that the corruption in the FBI will eventually disappear, it probably never will.
