Author who said Eric Trump told him Russians financed golf courses defends statement

Source: Charlotte Observer/McClatchy

A longtime journalist and author said Sunday he remains steadfast in what Donald Trump’s son Eric told him on a Lake Norman, North Carolina, golf course in 2013: that the Trumps relied on Russian backers to finance their golf courses.

Eric Trump went on Twitter last Monday to deny that he told James Dodson, co-author of Arnold Palmer’s memoir, a Ben Hogan biography and other books, that the Trumps relied on Russian financiers as they bought and renovated courses.

“This story is completely fabricated and just another example of why there is such a deep distrust of the media in our country #FakeNews,” Eric Trump said.

But on Sunday, Dodson insisted that Eric Trump did tell him about Russian investors. And two colleagues of Dodson – including one who had helped develop golf in Russia – said Dodson told them back in 2013 what Eric Trump said about Russian financial backing.

A shell company finances the golf course so that Russian involvement can be denied by the Trumps. Three or four offshore companies later is where the Russian money enters the picture. Quite possibly the money was laundered as well to hide its source.

Unless someone in the know speaks up, it is very difficult to follow the money.

Then where did the money come from?

After 4-5 bankruptcies and the banks not getting their money or claiming deeds to casino properties or Trump Tower, which American financial institution would risk its assets on Donald Trump and any future investment with him?

If not American banks, I think it's fair to give credence to James Dodson that Eric Trump accidentally told the truth.

and building courses all over America, the country was going through a recession. Golf courses all over the country were closing up shop daily. The golf course glut of the 1990s - 2000s was tanking, BIGLY! NO ONE was opening golf courses except - it seems - Donald Trump. Banks wouldn't have loaned him millions to chase a fantasy of becoming the high-end golf course baron of the U.S. Especially after he stiffed so many other banks with his casino bankruptcies.
Trump got the money from someone, and I'm almost certain those "someones" were Trump's good friends in Russia. Swine.
