Tempers Flare and Confusion Swirls at Rattled White House

The president’s appetite for chaos, coupled with his disregard for the self-protective conventions of the presidency, has left his staff confused and squabbling. And his own mood, according to two advisers who spoke on the condition of anonymity, has become sour and dark, turning against most of his aides — even his son-in-law, Jared Kushner — with Mr. Trump describing them in a fury as “incompetent,” according to one of those advisers.
As the maelstrom raged around them, reports swirled inside the White House that the president was about to embark on a major shake-up, probably starting with the dismissal or reassignment of Sean Spicer, the press secretary.
Mr. Trump’s rattled staff kept close tabs on a meeting early Monday in which the president summoned Mr. Spicer; the deputy press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders; and the communications director, Michael Dubke, to lecture them on the need “to get on the same page,” according to a person briefed on the meeting.
By the end of the day Tuesday, it seemed that Mr. Spicer had, for the moment, survived. People close to the president said Mr. Trump was considering the firing of several lower-level staff members, including several hired by Reince Priebus, the White House chief of staff, while weighing a plan to hand most day-to-day briefing responsibilities to Ms. Sanders.

when all the surrogates go out with one version of the story while tRump himself fabricates a completely different scenario? With little or no advance warning or briefing, the surrogates head out to spread the word. If trump doesn't like their version, rather than stick with their story (to at least give the impression of orderliness) he throws them under the bus, puts it in reverse, rolls over their battered bodies and hits them again. Then he has the nerve to blame THEM When the media notices the conflict between versions.
Things are only going to get worse from here on out. If tRump thinks he can salvage this dumpster fire of a Presidency, he is more delusional than we all thought. What's driving every bit of this mess is his Narcissism and the huge mistake people in his administration thinking they could control him. Like all of his other enterprises, this one is going bankrupt before he can even get the office furniture arranged to suit him. Boo hoo.....and buh-bye, Donald. Don't let the screen door hit ya in the ass on your way out.

"Evil help is hard to find. How else can you explain how the Evil Overlord's Dragon is a complete nincompoop, mooks are all dimwits who graduated from the Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy, the elite special forces consist of a Quirky Mini Boss Squad, and all the ninjas are standing around in plain sight or queuing up to attack the heroes one at a time?
Sometimes, it seems like the lead antagonist has deliberately chosen the most incompetent, craven, cowardly, or just plain unreliable underlings around... the trope often culminates in a Dragon that, instead of being the best of what the lower ranks has to offer, seems to be a living distillation of everything that makes the incompetent underlings what they are. This version is often punctuated by having the right-hand man actually secretly trying to undermine and/or replace the Evil Overlord, but just too incompetent to be a real threat.
Of course, the simplest answer for why the evil master is surrounded by idiots is because you'd have to be stupid to work for him. The underlings' being Too Dumb to Live may well explain why they continue to work for an abusive employer, but we still have to wonder why the Evil Overlord hired them in the first place..."
